auto gearbox issue?, car revs up to 3500 from 1 to 2

yes I did, an ABS modulator, two fuseboxes and a steering wheel.... never had a problem, I often go there as I have a house near gyomaendrod(vizparti;))

Today my car was also running fine:). Only one time changed around 2800rpm.
I will check what additive can I order from hungary and try. Thanks for the ideas!
 
This week I took the car to a Land Rover specialist to check if there is any failure code in the system. There was no any gearbox related one. Right after I went to an automatic gearbox specialist who tried the car and said that the gearbox itself is fine (no slip, changes fine) and meaningless to rebuild it. He is almost sure that it is a sticking governor valve (it was the opinion of the land rover specialist as well).
We are trying to find now a governor valve but seems not easy. I have to find somehow the box code but seems that without removing it, will not be easy. Any idea where else can I find it?
Also, does anyone has any idea what could be the price of it and how difficoult to change it?
 
afaik that ''governor valve'' issue is not specific for the D2 electronic auto transmission but for D1 or 300tdi defender... wait for confirmation though... but if it's so I have doubts about the ''specialist'' thing

The box code if you need it is on a plate directly behind the gear selector on the side-mine was covered in black oily muck and needed cleaning to see it-climb under passenger side and look directly behind gear shift lever on box,with a bright torch and a rag

If the gearbox code is ZF4HP22e or eh there is no governor, it's electronic.
The problem will be the control valves sticking, Lucas Transmission Fix may help.
 
I am complatelly lost now...
Should I take out the valve block and try to clean it? I have already put auto trans conditioner (Xado which is available in Hungary) but no change after about 500km.
 
in think you've got the answer in posts 34 and 36 in this thread... a fault within the valve block would trigger the M & S lights in most cases... forget about what that 'specialist' said... IMO jamesmartin is far more specialist in this
 
I would say it would be in your best interest to listen to the advise being given to you here and not bother with the "specialist's" advise of going after a nonexistent governor. As has been said, your box has full electronic controls in place of the governor in question as was used in the previous version of the transmission. I think for now it would be best to look into the possibility of having the lucas transmission fix couriered to you, flush out the oil one more time and use the transmission fix with the new oil. I hope you would agree that it would be a much cheaper option that could possibly make your problem go away as opposed to taking the box out.
 
the only time oil in an auto box goes black is by a burnt clutch pack , you could stand box with bell housing up and remove bell housing and pump plate ,clutch A and B are the 2 most common to fail and easily replaced

Ok, I will follow your recommendation. As I can not find reliable specialist here I will do it myself (or ask Land Rover mechanic). I have asked for the price and lead time of clutch pack A from the local ZF distributor.
Do I need any special tool for doing this change?

id see what you need first before ordering parts ,may just be 5-6 clutch plates and steels or piston o`rings or full pack assembly or clutch pack B as well

yes this is what i wanted to do. I just want to see first the price and leadtime from the supplier and order after.
 
Hello Guys! Just an interesting update about my gearbox.
About a week ago I planned to take out my box and check/replace clutch packs. I did not do it as my car started to change better and better and finally become perfect (i have already driven it about 4-5 times few hundred kms each days, many stop and go, cold and warm start, without any late or rough changes!)
The fact is that about 600-800kms ago I put Xado trans revitalizant into the box as last trial. Also fact that I have changed the oil 2x before (about 2000kms). So I do not know finally which has solved the problem but it works fine now!:)

I used Lucas Transmission Fix on mine for a similar problem, took about 800 miles but the flaring has gone, just an occasional hard shift into top:)

Datatek, tell me a bit more about this lucas transmission fix, is it really as good as all those reviews I've been reading on their website make it look? The transmission in the disco has started to misbehave somewhat and I've thinking of getting something that could patch it up on the inside and keep it going until I have some time (and money) on my hands a little bit later in the year and try to sort it out... For some time now the reverse just feels so week. Trying to back out of the driveway which is a bit of an incline makes it feel as if its slipping. You really gotta mash it down to get it to climb up in reverse. Sometimes its so sluggish, I'm forced to engage diff lock to help it up the slope.
So, tell me the sort of problems you had with yours and what lucas (the lord of darkness:p) did for you.

Hmmm, yours sounds more like a knackered clutch. It's worth a shot with the Lucas though, takes a while to take effect. Fresh oil and a new filter is also good unless yours is the pre electronic version of the ZF4HP22 when some say new oil will stir up crap and affect the governor. No governor on the electronic version.
Oh and it's not Lucas Prince of Darkness, it's an American company.
