As the title really, is there asbestos in the paint? I feel this is a silly question but have it in the back of my head somewhere that someone told me there was asbestos in it!

You can get asbestos in textured coatings like artex in buildings and in bitumen products like roof felt and floor tile adhesives so there's maybe potential in old underseal (although I doubt it!), but you wouldn't get it in paints.

Lead on the other hand.....

According to the www you can, I'm supprised. We live and learn.... still nothing to do with discos, this thread should be in a general chat forum. Asbestos in Paint Was Widely Used for Decades | Asbestos.net

Interesting! It just made me think the other day when I was cutting the ally panels off with my grinder! And yes I didn't think to put it in the general section, as its a disco in question I just naturally post in the disco section!

I'd take that with a pinch of salt personally. There are no resources listed on there to back it up, and it simply doesn't make sense to add a fibrous material to paint. Unless they are meaning paint as in a fire resistant coating, rather than a finishing product. In which case, you'd realistically only find that in areas like on structural steelwork etc.

exactly but it was used in paint no ones claimed it was used as colour on a car ,but non the less interesting to see what asbestos was put in too

I sure that in years passed asbestos was used the the production of fire proof paint which is used for covering internal walls etc of buildings.
Now days is intumescent fire protective coatings for steelwork, timber and fire retardand paint for walls, ceilings.
