I know they have no second gear lever and no diff lock etc. and i know they have an ird and a vcu. my main question is are they permentent 4wd? and what i mean by that is do all 4 wheels spin all the time or does the back wheels only kick in when the front wheels lose grip (and the traction control kicks in) like what happens in the honda crv??? its something i never been sure of.

permanent 4x4 yes but til the fronts slip and make the viscous fluid in the vcu thicker (thus driving the drive plates to transfer more drive to the rear) it puts more drive to the front.

i've seen 30% rear to 70% front quoted but this is speculation.

hope this helps ;)

They can be considered 4WD. In operation the front wheels do all the work when there is plenty of traction but the moment the front tyres start to slip the rear starts to get drive. If the front has no grip the rear will do all the work until the front tyres can take over again. The system works well without any human intervention.

First off, pop onto the new members section and say hi ;)
Second. Why buy a 2WD, 4WD? If you only need 2WD then you would be better off with a Focus!!

I assume it was a private sale - ?
If you got it from a trader and they didn't tell you it was 2WD you have a case for a refund, even if they didn't offer a warranty.

was it a private sale, or from a dealer?

I put that into Google translate and hit the audio button and it still didn't make much sense (made me giggle though). If you want people to help can please at least do us the courtesy of punctuating a little bit? Thanks! :)

Oh, and yes, if it was from a dealer then take the bloody thing back!
