Hi all I recently purchased a Freelander 2 on an 09 which needed and engine as last one timing belt had snapped so I replaced the engine. And now more problems the car has no drive to the prop I have jacked the front up and put it into gear in mud mode no prop movement and ptu sounds clinky also drove into a bog on my land and front wheels just spin no movement to rear wheels. No warnings coming up on dash. Any advise would be massively appreciated. I have some mechanical knowledge but this is my first 4wd so I'm about stuck on how to go about this .thanks

Sounds like the PTU has failed, which is very common especially on vehicles with odd tyres and no Haldex fluid changes.

I will add that playing with the TR dial makes no difference if the vehicle is stationery, as the Haldex should only lock when the vehicle is actually moving. However lifting just one end could result in the vehicle simply driving off the jack, so that's not a good or safe test. If you want to see if the AWD working, all 4 wheels must be off the ground.

A test for PTU issues is to try to turn the propshaft while the wheels are on the ground. It shouldn't turn other than a bit of slop in the gears. If the propshaft can be rated, then the PTU isn't connecting the propshaft to the rest of the gearbox.

Thanks for your reply @Nodge68 I forgot to add I messed about with the TR dial while off-road in a bog but still no difference to the drive. I will try to turn the prop thismorning and see how that goes. is it a case of full new ptu. I'm guessing the when the ptu fails it's no longer connecting to the drive of the gearbox so if the prop turns next thing to check would be the splines on the ptu connection
