Hello to all
Just out of curiosity.
My 2004 HSE is a front wheel drive.
I know there are lots of problems its IRD and VCU.
Question. If the IRD is damage you will ear it even if you dont have the shaft or not. If not is this a sign that the IRD is ok?
All this because now my HSE is in Portugal with PT license plate and in here they want to chase the Freelanders with no AWD. They say about security etc etc.
Funny on the CoC it say permanent traction it doesnt say 4 or to 2 wheels but......
Im just trying to see if ite worthy to put one or not
Many Thanks

Hi, your questions aren’t entirely clear for me.
If your asking if a faulty ird will make noticeable noise even with the propshaft removed then I would say yea this is possible if the rod drive flange for the propshaft is still there as the gears are still in contact.
If you have the propshaft the best thing to do would be to install it and see if the system works ok or not. They tend to “tell you” audibly when something is wrong.
