Hi all
I have had my 2003 disco for a month now and so far i am really happy with it. But the other day i crawled under the rear just to check the condition of the air bags ect and i found some wires that wernt attatched to anything. They are orange/green, white/red and black. I have searched through rave and the only thing i can find is the wiring for the water sensor in the fuel filter, but in rave its got white/purple instead ao white/red. So i had another look on the car and the filter doesnt have a sensor in the bottom, it has a black plug but there is nothing to plug electrics to, and nothing lights up on the dash it stays blank where the light should be.
Should a 2003 d2 have this sensor fitted ?
I also found another plug hanging by the fuel tank with 2 black wires in it, does anyone know what this one is for ? everything works and there are no faults showing or logged its completely clear.
Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark, you definitely should have a sedimenter water sensor. It screws into the bottom of the fuel filter and then plugs into the cars electrics.

They cost less than £20 and literally just screw in - in place of the white plastic tap that I'm guessing is currently there?

I am guessing that i am right in thinking that these wires i have hanging are for the switch then,? Its like a big black plastic nut thats in the bottom of the filter, when i remove this to replace with a switch will the system need bleeding or should it be ok ?
I cant think why it has been removed as its got a full dealer service history with all the recipts, so it must have been done there.
Thanks for your help

They play up for a past time and bring on the management light. It's common to have them missing

the only real problem I can foresee is that you have to be careful what fuel filter you buy as some don't have a plastic drain valve on the bottom to plug the hole.

That shouldnt be a problem i do my own repairs and servicing when i can and i have always used genuine filters, the filter was only changed 1 month ago when i bought the car so i was only going to change the switch at the moment. so next chance i get im`e off to buy a switch, will i have to bleed the fuel system after having the switch out?

To be honest Mark, you shouldn't need to as you will be swapping the plastic tap for the plastic water sensor. Do the swapover quickly enough and you'll lose little or no diesel.

It might be prudent to switch the ignition onto pos II and leave for 30secs to 1 min to allow any neccesary bleeding to be accomplished. Then fire her up and enjoy.
