Attempted a re-gas on mine today at quick fit. #fail condenser like swiss cheese. New ordered, next job on the list. :D

Doesn't matter what year it is. Thing causing compressor control open circuit fault is pressure switch not being made through lack of pressure. Compressor cannot be engaged unless minimum pressure needed to close the switch is present. :)
 
Just a note from a hot country .... when anyone says:

"The a/c isn't working very well it just needs a bit of gas..."

In my experience this is not true and there is a definite leak, not just "seepage" of gas over the years. Re gassing might last a week or so.

So, don't waste money on the gas, find the leak.

Yep, on a good system as was fitted to my Pajero, 10 years, no leaks and no need for a re-gas:)
LR quality is the problem.
 
yep get it gassed.

they will then show you where you have a leak.

all this FOC with Halfords.

Did the p38 two years ago and simple condenser change fixed it.

All still well...

These 'free' leak checks are all very well, but they only need to work for 5 minutes or so in order for it to be chargeable.

Last time Kwik Fit did mine, it lasted until I got home.

Done properly, sufficient vacuum is introduced to show even a small leak in no time and most machines are automatic and accurate.
 
Now confirmed the clutch is working, am taking it back to the engineer who retro fitted the condenser. He mumbled something about that I needed to run the Aircon once a month, which i told him I did! Still shouldn't lose the gas!
 
The P38 i have just bought has no aircon so went to get it gassed today and found it had a massive leak. turns out the pipes were not fastened in the side. I can assume from this that the condensor is fubbered. So ordered a new one, my question is, when I unbolt the condensor is it easier to connect the pipes with it loose as its not easy to get to them when in place?
I spotted the 2 bolts at the top, are there more at the bottom?

You can't connect the pipes unless it is at least roughly in place. Bottom first then top one. Two bolts at top two at bottom accessible through bumper cover vent slots.
