Since my accident when a 3rd party hit the rear quarter of my Disco I have noticed a slight lean to starboard. On further examination I read throught the handbook, recently bought off ebay, and have found the following:

Warning lights are not working.
Checked engine bay fusebox and found the ACE fuse had been removed and left to one side.

Fuse replaced and still no warning lights, dash fuses are okay and now I get a chiming that lasts for approx 2 minutes. Now according to the manual I should not drive it, that is assuming it is the ACE warning chime?

Advice I need here is: it was bought off a garage, on finance, they put a new MOT on it and part of the work was ACE related. Seems they 'doctored' the system to make it shut up and did not do the full work on the ACE from what I can assume. Obviously I have no receipts for the work as it was 'done' before I picked it up and signed for it.

I have sent the finance company a lengthy email (as they were closed) and detailed the fault and what I found. I have left it with them to answer as they have financed a car that should not have been sold. I have also said I am going to take legal action and wish for advice first. The ball is in their court. I am also going to get the accident repair centre to have a look at this and get a report, I 'll say it has happened since the accident and get their view on it.

Seems I was stitched up good on this one! My own fault for not checking all warning lights, but then I knew nothing of the ACE system until I got the handbook.

Appreciate any advice apart from the obvious, I'll park it quite happily in his office and where the sun don't shine!

this is comming all to common the ace system can also be turned of in the bcu this will turn off the warning light (i have done this as my orange light came on the day of the mot) any one buying a car is advised to have a diagnostic check to see if there are any faults and to see if if any settings have been changed

As long as the system has been turned off properly, you may be better off without it, as it can be costly when it goes wrong. If on the other hand you can screw the seller for a proper repair it may well be worth doing. If you decide to keep it as is you should tell your insurance company about the mod. If finance is involved, the finance company are jointly responsible with the supplier for the sale, so if you can't screw him you can screw them.

Faulty ACE will not make the car lean to one side.If its leaning it either has a broken or weak rear spring or if its SLS,(Self levelling rear suspension - air springs.) it could be needing calibration or it could be inactive and just sitting on the air left in the system.
Is the car even fitted with ACE - if it is the PAS res will have 2 caps.

Are you sure it's leaning - if the rear bumper is bent it will LOOK as though it is. Check by measuring distance from ground to top of both rear wheel arches.
