Hi Guys
Bit of a strange one, but think it is Turbo / Air related.
I have a 300TDI auto EDC

Today i was driving quite happily when i put my foot down to over take ( yes i know i tried but failed) and when the rev counter reached 3000 RPM the engine died and dropped back to about 1200RPM.
Every time the revs get up to 3000 RPM on the rev counter i'm getting a serious loss of power, be it when kicking down or just driving normally.
My truck will happily get to 70 (ish) a slong as i don't go over that dreaded 300RPM limit.
I have taken the Air filter out on my way home tonight to see if that was sucking up but to no avail.
At the weekend i'm going to check all pipes etc ( did it a few months ago and all looked ok) and have alook at the waste gate.
I did put another Injector pump on just over 1000 miles ago and it has been running fine, alos i have put a new lift pump, air pipes, tank unit on as well.

Is there anywhere else i should be looking apart from the turbo area etc? I feel it is Boost related but TBH i don't know much about turbos.

It looks like you've covered everything.
I don't think that a lack of turbo would drop the revs so dramatically.
I know that you have replaced it, but I'm thinking lift pump.
 
If it's an auto then it is a'fly-by-wire' throttle? Have you had fault-codes scanned?
Also, fit a temp boost-guage, if it's over boosting then the ecu might have a fit & drop power??

Agree it sounds like over boosting, are you positive the wastegate isn't stuck shut ? My EDC was exactly the same as soon as it hit those revs the power was cut temporarily, made it very difficult to get up steep hills.
 
I had the same, and found out it was the air filter I had put on for my snorkel couldn't cope with the amount of air the engine required.

Instead of taking out the air filter try running it without the actual airbox etc and take it up to 3000 rev to see what happens - eliminate all the obvious then you are left with the solution - might help?

Having a quiet day at work today so got stuck in :)
The little pipe from the wastegate to the t-piece was split, loads of old oil everywhere so think it may be that and been a little knackered for a while. so going to pop a new one on, also the intercooler and inlet manifold are getting a good clean as they are very oily.
fingers crossed that's it.
Have new short pipes on order as they are a tad thin as well, but don't look as if they are delaminating, but i'll change them anyway.

will let you know how i get on :)

A couple of thoughts, one as mentioned before the lift pump - the injection pump will pull fuel through itself up to about 2,500 above that the lift pump needs to be working or it revs a bit then dies. Secondly a restriction in the fuel line - disconnect to lift pump and blow back to the tank - easy fix and worth a try.

Well changed the Lift pump , still not running right, infact it's now running like a bag of bolts, so i think the injector pump may have failed.
I'm going to do the manual conversion, i have asource for all the parts, but he may not have the cable bracket off of a Auto, does anyone have a picture so i can see what i have to manufacture please, or has anyone doen the conversion and can send me a quick pick.
I know i have to get 4 injectors, New pipes, Feed from Turbo to back of injector , but can i use my old throttle and kick down cables? or are they different lengths.

Just found these on ashcroft is this all i need for the brackets?

will they bolt straight onto the manual pump does anyone know? if so £36 is a bargain i think

If changing the lift pump has changed things (for the worse) then id suggest that the new lift pump is probably leaking air in on its vacuum side.
Obviously there may well be other issues, but the olives on the lift pumps can be a pain to seal up, and, if theyre not sealed, then the job will run rough.

If you dont have a bit of clear pipe in there, could you make up a fitting to go on the back of the IP, where the return to the tank would normally go, and run into a clear plastic bottle.

If you put the line under the liquid level in the bottle, and its bubbling....

Im not sure if its been suggested above (i read the thread a couple of days back) but the banjo bolt on the back of the ip is not a normal unit - it has a tiny hole through it to restrict flow. You may want to blow this out, just as a precaution, before swapping the whole pump.

(again, it is a small hole, so expect pressure, but some flow)

Also, im sure youve checked the sedimenter. I read once of someone having a lump in the sedimenter that only rose (and blocked the flow) over a certain fuel load.
