300tdi headlight problem

Hi guys new to this but hopefully some one can help? I've got a problem with my disco 300tdi side lights work fine but no head lights if I turn on main beam the headlights come on and main beam but the main beam goes off thankfully leaving me with just head lights if I let go of the stalk, if I flash the stalk again the headlights go out back to just side lights and so on if I repeat
Any ideas anyone? Cheers Anthony

and re-new the headlight switch, fit new earth leads and it'll be fine ...

Cheers I'm going to have a look later as I'm green laning with it tonight so lights would be nice!!

I had this exact problem with mine as well, dash lights also used to go out. Fixed mine with a replacement stalk (as henrytilly said). It's fairly certainly the problem if the outer knob on the stalk feels undefined when you turn it to its various positions. Check the earths first as suggested as well though, might save the 50 odd quid the new stalk would be.
