OK,
I've recently bust the auto gearbox in my bobbed Range Rover Classic.
Defo the box, transfer box is fine.

I've got a replacement autobox to replace it, even fresh ATF to go in....Now, I'm having the attack of the "want to have fun in it but can't be arsed/too lazy fixing it again" syndrome....

SO,
Anyone any ideas what sort of price a local independant garage would charge for swapping the gearbox out for the good replacement I've got??

just weighing up the pros and cons, bearing in mind I can't remember the last time I got m local garage to do any work, other than the MOT's....so I don't have much ideas about current rates....
I'm guessing it'll be near a full days labour to do the job?

This website seems useful;
Labourrates.co.uk

and based upon the general service times for doin this I'm guessing about £450 + vat for an indy

Hmm, that's about the max I was thinkin to avoid ****ing about with it myself....
Will have a chat with gabby at the local garage tommorrow morning

I thought you enjoyed the spannering joe :p

I did wonder when you said it, I am not looking forward to doing mine.

I would have said £400 ish if they are resonable

watch out for that fluid!

Yep, I do enjoy spannering....most of the time. but this isn't most of the time these past fews days! lol
To be honest, I remember feelin the same way just before I set to and replaced the engine a while back...best thing that ever happened in terms of getting rid of that worn out original replacing with a late serpentine unit...happier and free revving when neccessary.

I did actually go down to the local garage. Gabs on holiday for two weeks, and the older chap there said he didn't fancy doing it!.... I politely agreed, but later remembered their replies to me questioning their MOT prices going from £50 to £20 a while back. "it's t generate a bit more work for us"...well, I was offering them the work with this box change?! Bit odd, but there we go.

I'll make a start on it day off on sunday. Shalln't be rushing it, and will probably be showered in loads of dried mud, so not exactly looking forward to that element of the spannering. Up side is, atleast it probably doesn't need to go on ramps with the lift its had! lol

it is a basid that dried mud in yer eyes and down yer neck and it never stops falling. do you have anywhere you can borrow a 4 poster local?

shame your not this way I could have got you in at work
