200tdi into td5 dash

Evening all,

So I’m following this guide;

And I’m having trouble refitting the pins, is there a specific tool/method to use, as my crimps seem to splay it to wide, and even if I force it in to the hole it pushes the divider over so the next one can’t go in.


I have 3 different crimps, the standard red/blue/yellow ones and I know it’s not those ones, Econ/Super (for Econoseal) and these Kely ones

If anybody has followed this guide and has any tips, I’d really appreciate it!

FFS honestly I’m not as thick as I constantly make myself look...... but I just thought that was like the web site’s name and it was just a guide. Sorry Retroanaconda lol.

It could be many things, but at a guess I would say incorrect crimp size used and/or incorrect wire size.

Mine is wired in using 1mm cable and the smallest crimp I had, in your case the top crimp does 0.5-1.0mm. So that’s the one I would use. I can remeber that mine was a pig to do, but only the earth gave real issues as that is 2.5mm.

I used the smallest crimp size I had, but if I recall correctly I did have to tweak a few of them with a pair of pliers to get them in the connector housing.

I suspect that unless you have the proper proprietary crimping tool for the specific connector type there will always be an element of ‘fiddle’ required.

Still struggling to fit these but have finally managed to work it with my crimp tool and some long nose pliers to mild it into the correct shape.

Now for my next question, on the clutch pedal which came with the bulkhead there is two wires;

I can’t find this on the wiring diagram, is this because it was not fitted on a 200tdi and if not will this pedal work?

My clutch doesn’t have any wires, but if I had to guess I would say it’s for something like cruise control or the electronic version of the later 300tdi fuel pumps. It could be later still and TD5. @jamesmartin will be able to advise.

pedal will work

The clutch switch is used to signal the TD5 ECU that you're changing gear. It helps stop the revs flaring up when you push the clutch pedal. A 200tdi isn't that sophisticated and doesn't use the clutch switch so you can ignore it.
