Converting 1995 p38 ... Anyone help with answers
New range rover owner.
I have bought a 1995 4.5 hse p38 I wish to change the front to look like the range rover sport can anyone advise what year and models I need as doner for correct parts to fit. Someone has tried to facelift mine prior to purchase and failed the lights don't meet the wings on the sides and the bonnet won't shut because grill is in the way they've used existing p38 bonnet and bumper.
I know this can be done as I saw a 1996 model that had been changed but the owner bought it like that so couldn't help me

Oh dear - not another one....

The cost of doing it properly - you may have well have bought a Sport in anycase....

Doing it cheaply will end up looking cheap and ruining a decent Rangie - plus others will only shake their head in shame for you!

To do a proper job it will cost a few thousand....

But please re-consider and if you still go ahead, please do a decent job!!

Unfortunately you are never going to win anyone over on this forum suggesting to do what you are doing. I am also sorry to say that this conversion is not straight forward and the end result will only be as good as your bodywork skills are! No off the shelf kit for the parts plus you will also encounter other issues such as the electrics. However if you feel confident – who is anyone on here to tell you what you should or should not be doing with your car? It’s YOURS!! You enjoy it :p

If you want a RR Sport, then I guess the real question here is.....

Why did you buy P38 and not a RR Sport??

The other thing is in no way will it look like a Range Rover Sport. It will look like a P38 with some 'bits' stuck on it. You won't be fooling anyone.

Why not sell the P38, use the money from that plus what you had set aside for the Sport parts and buy an early L322?

As you will appreciate the cost of doing a proper job will run into thousands. Your never going to get the investment back so unless the car is pretty good mechanically & you plan on keeping for a long while then i would say it's a waste of time & effort but as jonnycrash said, its your car so do what you want with it. Be sure to post the finished article for some 'constructive criticism' here though.
I've never seen a conversion that doesn't look like a butchered P38 though.....

but even if you do a "decent" job, it looks cheap and more importantly makes you look cheap

why oh why bother !!!

Dear Landy Zone. I have a 1964 Trabant 601. I would like to convert it into a Porsche 911 GT3 lookalike. What will be the approximate cost, i have upto £60,000.00 to play with. Where will i get a conversion plate to fit the Trabant engine onto a Porsche gearbox. And most importantly what size tyres and wheels should i go for? :D:D:D

Just get a Beetle and run it over with your Landy. Same result as going out and buying a 911.

:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughii was just about to do that very conversion, you put me right off it now.
Anyone want a cheap Trabant and a low mileage Porsche engine

You've obviously never driven a 911 have you.

No one said it had to drive like one. The butchered P38s don't drive like a Sport, they only look like one, if you squint really hard while being reamed by a horse on Viagra.

A run over Beetle in the same conditions will look exactly like a 911.

Well you can't say I didn't warn you.

To get an idea of the work involved have a look on Simmonites website. They sell a kit and offer a price for doing the entire job.

:D

Well that told me. And I picked up the p38 real cheap there's a 1996 on eBay for £4k looks proper job. I quite like the look of the front end and as mine has been bodged I need to do something with it.
With no previous range rover knowledge it's a project.
And thanks for all the comments but not one of you gave me the info I required as to which years bits will fit my p38 1995
