hi new to this and looking for much neede advice bought a series 2a for christmas and deciede to restoreit and cant wait to take it off road. The truck is a 1969 2a swb pickup that had been sat in the woods for 13 years with no love but only 33,00 genuine miles. It has the winch and hydrolic kit on it which is great although i dont know a great deal about these. They engine turns but no life yet think new solonoid, the chassis is mint which is amazing considering how it looked and was stored, apart the very rear crossmember which is shot and i will need to replace. i have no working electrics but the ignition lights up and front right indicator sometimes flashes. Would be great if any one knows where to find a rear chassis and any advice with taking these old trucks apart would be good cheers oli

Lots of places to buy a rear chassis section try any of the big 4x4 parts suppliers or Richards or Marshland chassis.
Is it diesel or petrol if diesel try new filter and check glowplugs are getting hot..

HELLO:welcome2:, Nice choice, wish I had the space to have a go at one of these,

I take it the starter wont work from the Key but will work if you press the solenoid...as its petrol I would clean the plugs, and dizzy cap, make sure the points are opening and closing, If the ignition switch is FUBAR then give the coil a fixed supply direct from the battery, (make sure you can pull it off the battery so you can stop it) stick a plug lead direct to the coil and earth it to the engine block, give it a crank and see if there is a spark,( nice crack and bright blue) soft yellow could mean coil is on its way.

If you have a spark then go thought the fuel system, give the carb a clean and see the fuel pump is pumping, you should see it give a spurt as the engine is cranking,

If you have a spark, and fuel then its the timing or compression is stuffed.

have fun

cheers for the advice, landy is comming on ok plenty of rust holes appering, got it turning on the key now (was a faulty solonoid and crap wiring)no spark but coil is faulty so waiting for parts.

Landy seems to lean to one side quite alot so thinking replace shocks and hopefully will sort it

The winch was pulling the front of the chassis apart so that has to come off for welding and make a new fixing plate, having an issue with releasing the drum as the handle is missing any ideas?

Is it ok to drill through the chassis on these (fromt crossmember) to put bolts all the way through, will this weaken it at all?
cheers oli

Oli, well done for rescuing it when it may well have gone to the scrap yard. Is it rude to ask how you came across it and how much you paid for it?

My dad actually found it in Cornwall, he likes running and spotted it down in the woods (middle of know where) on a farm, i bang on about landovers quite a lot so he knew the shape. Managed to track down the house and the guy who owned it was really nice and wanted to see it on the road again as it used to be the family car, he found out value of scrap and we bought for 300 the price was low but as i wanted to restore it he was happy

Getting more done, got the rear tub back in and bolted up rear electrics all work but one brake light. Have wired up all my towing electrics and re fitteds the front tow bar. Spent some time on the radiator and came up pretty nice only one patch needeD (the black saqure) Got the seat box ready to be re fitted, new military tyres bought from a landrover friend are quite a difference on original. All hydrolics are now painted and new hoses fitted. Still waiting for rear springs hopefully this week, maybe.

Does any one know how much involved to convert these to coil spring?
Has anyone had trouble with hydrolic tank grounding out on floor (is mounted in rear passenger arch, but got a feeling its going to get ripped off)
Cheers Oli

Finally got some rear springs, left them in oil to soak and fitted them, um looks ok but seems to be really high(think id better do front springs to) how can you tell if they are high lift?

Got to invest in some bolts for fuel tank and seat and then its just the bulkhead, should be driving again by the end of the week. just need more funds as usual.

Why dont you post this in the series section? You will be helping anyone who wants to learn and others will also be able to guide you. This will get lost as its in Introduce Yourself.

Nice motor that, I saw the photos in the gallery a few days ago. I have the same winch set up on my 109 so any questions, let me know.
You can't convert it to coil springs (and why the heck would you anyway) and keep the ID - so don't bother. Its an old Land-Rover, not a sports car...

Glad to see you making progress with it and I hope you try and keep it "as-is" afterall its survived all these years like that. Odd to see one at that age built in Limestone...
