Hi, I'm trying to find some information on my late series 2a gearbox. The vehicle is a 1970 and the gearbox is a suffix F. I do not know if this is one of the full synchro 2a boxes or not. Honestly I never even looked at the serial number until a few days ago as I always assumed it was a non syncro version. This was mainly because I noticed some difficulty gearing down from 2nd to first (whether I double de-clutched or not). I do not remember having trouble downshifting from 3rd to 2nd but my memory is foggy and I haven't driven it in 2 years. The vehicle is partially disassembled now and I can't test it further. I have read in several threads that the suffix E series 2a boxes were full syncro. I have not been able to find any information on suffix F boxes at all but one would assume that being later than the E, they would also be full syncro.

Can anyone confirm that suffix F boxes are full synchro? Are there any sources of information on the suffix F boxes and/or which rebuild kit I need? Is there any way to identify a full synchro box without taking it apart? I ask because I also read somewhere that the shifter throw on a full synchro gearbox is shorter for 3rd and 4th gear than 1st and 2nd (which mine is). Oh and if it helps, my clutch slave cylinder is on the right and is the 2a style.
Thanks

Funely enough mines a 1970 S2a with a fully recon'd sufix F gearbox a few years ago now and has probably 10,000ish miles on it now and has always from the day i got it on the road from a full restoration crunched between 1st and 2nd and from 3rd to 2nd and i absolutely hate it as i've always had older none sincro gearboxes and think they was better

You can just picture the teeth grinding away 😨, have you tried double de clutching , changing slower sometimes my s3 box cruches if I change too quick
