Have this problem with the doors on my 3-door 1.8 freelader.Has been operating well ever since, but as from last week I cannot unlock the doors with the remote except that, one can hear the door mechanism clicking as if to open but the knobs do not rise up to unlock. The alarm system does demobilise but you can only gain entry using the key. The reverse i.e when locking, is not a problem because the knobs do fall in, to lock .WHAT IS THE CAUSE.
Secondly ,the central locking button that one presses inside the car to lock yourself in ,is also not working. You can only hear the clicking sounds but doors do not lock by themselves.Landys pls. advise this poor soul.

Sounds identical to a problem I had - turned out that the door lock solenoid was knackered. £70 from a LR dealer and all is well.

Regards,

Steve.

Some of the driver's door locks only go up half way when you press fob once. Then go fully up when the fob is pressed a second time.

Solenoid is sticking, seems to happen when cold, a touch of WD40 or other suitable lubricant does the trick.

More than likely it is the solenoid knackered as G13 said.

But worth checking linkage on the locking system, strange it works one way and not the other?

There are two motors in the solenoid. I took mine apart and cleaned and lubricated with WD40 - I couldnt get any improvement, so purchased a new one.

I'm not surprised that it wore out. When you think how many times you lock and unlock your doors - especially if you use the facility to lock the door when you are inside. Its a minimum of one lock and one unlock per one way journey.

Regards,

Steve

Above is exactly what happens to mine, have already taken off the innertrim of the door but couldn't locate the solenoid (didn't want to remove the plastic foil though) so closed it up again and crossed my fingers for better results, unfortunately, today being very cold again (around 0°C this afternoon) the knob didn't come out at all when pressed once on the fob but came out completely at the second push for the remaining doors.

Thanks a lot cashybai,

But all this is pretty difficult for me to understand, the plain talk overhere is already more than enough sometimes (most of the times) so when they start with all that technical stuff I'm almost lost. I can see the picture but don't know the lingo enough to get all the details, besides the fact I'm afraid of breaking/ruining things due to my clumsyness, so .... (That's the situ. in a nutshell. This applies also for my post where to put stands etc.. Ok to get under the car but when I have to get a spanner or so I risk to let it fall as I get sweaty hands of nerves/fear....  )

in that case Willo - yu need to save ya Euros to pay someone else ;)

I know, but on the other hand I like to do it, my Morris Mini, Opel Manta A, Renault 4, Peugeot XRD, Merc. 190E, they all were serviced by me, now with the Hippo haven't done much so far on it but it starts to hitch again a little to start doing. (See the rocker cover breather filter and MAF etc.. ) I remember that with the other cars also the first times were giving me the creeps but in the end you can do things with yr eyes shut. Imagin the main thing for me now is to take the underbelly protection plate off...  (Four screws and a couple of nuts, imagin.... )
