Hey guys,

I'm looking at getting myself a new style defender (the one with that funny looking lump in the middle of the bonnet), probably a model from 2008 or 2009. My qustions are:

1) Are defenders from these years still thrown together in such a way that they don't keep the air/water out? Our 1999 130 defender is basically like sitting outside haha

2) Will they still be reasonably free of problems at that age? (and from 30-50k miles) Obviously each car is unique, but by and large are they more or less likely to need money thrown at them than my 93 disco v8 :p

3) Is there anything in particular I should look for when viewing these little gems?

4) I'm also probably getting the two-seater because of the increased load space compared to those stupid fold-away chairs. Has anyone found that the decrease in visibility from getting rid of the rear side windows is too much or gets in the way?

Cheers

P.S. I didn't search, too lazy, feel free to bollock me :)

My mate had a new 58 plate 90.

New turbo.
New front and rear diffs.
New transfer box.
10 new sidelight bulbs all on the same side and within 18 months.
Leaked like a land rover should.
New head light wiring loom as old one burnt out.
Nearly forgot the new clutch.

All this was done under warranty.

Not much changes really.

I have a 110 bought new in 2011, and borrowed a demo 90 from my dealer earlier this year. No visibility issues with the 90 or the 110 to be honest. My 110 has done 34000 miles since it was new in May last year, no major issues, just a couple of paint blemishes and loose door handles on the front doors. Middle seats rattled a bit but sorted under warranty. It doesn't especially leak, just a little trickle in the drivers side of the cab after heavy rain. It once blew a tail lamp bulb. Thats literally all I can think of thats gone "wrong" with it.
