I am starting to think the handbook I have is not giving me the correct info (maybe its from another RR?) Mine is a 1995 4.6 HSE. Could some one plese tell me word for word the exact way to sync the key. Thanks to all of you that has helped me so far. I am scared to try in case it all goes tits up but I reaaly need to try it now. Hopefully at still works afterwards. I have a brand new key from Ebay but it is a propper RR one. I do have the original key but its worn out, I need to push the buttons with a pen to get the light to flash. Failing this then god only knows..... Thanks again......................

the new key you got off ebay is useless it will never work.. you need to buy one from steler cost around£150 no way round it..

firstly is it the whole keyfob you bought of ebay?

if it is im afriad to tell you i believe they cannot be reprogrammed to your car as they are only made for original car from factory and any replacement is ordered to car thats why tehy are so exspensive from dealers the ones of ebay are useless! sorry mate.

I'm not familiar with the RR set up but I have an Omega and the car keys off ebay and the likes can be reprogramed at the dealership for around £50. The machine for vauxhall is called a tech 2.

~As i say the RR set up might be different but it seems strange if it is. hope that helps.

I suspect (without knowing for sure) that the keys have to be programmed to the car.

Reason I say that is the RR P38 was contemporary with the post 96 Rover 800's with wireless alarm remotes (same company and several minor electrical ancillaries are shared obviously - I've noted a few other than the obvious interior light unit).

The alarm fobs on post 1996 R800's are also programmed to the car and cannot simply be resynched to another similar R800. People CAN reprogramme the fobs on Rover 800's, but ONLY if they have that fob's bar code (you won't find one on a used fob...)

Frankly I'd rather it was that way otherwise any scrote who happened to come across a working RR fob could synch it to the car, disarm the alarm/immobilisor, hotwire it and drive away...

Try someone like Remote Key Fob Replacement for a cheaper option (albeit probably not an OEM fob).

Hope that helps?

Malcolm

A kit to replace the buttons is about a fiver, the button pad just pops out with a sharp instrument.
If you try to make one out of the two you will end up with nothing working.:eek::eek:
Your P38 is earlier than mine and the re-synch proceedure is different or I would type it out. I'm sure it is in RAVE, I think it might be put the key in the ignition, turn the key to position 2 while holding the lock button on the fob.
Others will no doubt correct this if I'm wrong:D

you will not gat any other key to work unless you go get one from the stealers, p38's are very secure in that respect. there are very few if any that are stolen without the key or physically lifting them from the road.

the keys are made and coded by huf in germany and cannot be programed by anyone else!

I had 2 keys with mine which helps. Key #2 was in good condition but key #1 was a mess. Getting the re-furb pack which is a new key button pad, 2 x batteries, rubber ring and new battery cover. With a bit of spit and polish the fob looked great again. I tested in the house but no red LED so decideded the key was stuffed and looked to get a replacement from the stealer. Went out to the RR anyway and pressed the buttons - nothing, so decided I would sync the key:
Key in door, turn to unlock, while in the unlock position, press the unlock button then turn to lock, while in the lock position press the lock button
Took the key out and thought to give it a try, pressed the unlock button and f**kity f**k it only worked, tried lock and yep all working sweet (but no led on the fob)

im guessing the LED in your fob is broken. but anyway after referbing my own key the other day it might be worth pointing out that make sure when people put it back together that they close the it correctly and that the contacts are in the right position or it wont work.

hod do i know this?? ehh.... a "Friend" told me....! lol

Right guys, Car has now started playing up, found out it was a faulty alternator, and was flashing up all sorts of messages and then drained the battery... so I that replaced....

However I am now unable to use my remote to open and close the locks, or start the car, engine disabled etc etc...

I have been using the key code in the drivers door lock, and then the car will start, however as soon as i switch it off, I have to do it all again.

How can I re-sync the key to the car? Pressing the unlock button while in position 2 does not work.

I have heard people talking about a Sync Mate? what does this do, I have a fault mate Extreme, can this be used?

Sorry for ignorance...

Chris

Key sync does not need Faultmate and varies according to the year of the car. Mozz smith is your man.

seems you have lost ya money mate .. these are one only car key non transferable ..sorry .. really wish ebay would get this sorted and stop people selling them as usless .... to others

Try putting key in door with door unlocked. Press lock button and turn to lock position, return to upright and let go of button. Press unlock button and turn to unlock position return to upright release button. Remove key and press fob to lock. See what you get.
