L322 Key fob case replacement.

So guys an L322 suffer with key fob problems like rubber flapping off the sides.

We have 2 like this, 1 has insulation tape holding it together.
So it’s time to sort them. It seems LR have a replacement part for this problem.
Now you can buy them on the evil bay with the metal sides with a key blank, but I didn’t see the point so just got the front and back.

So, basically you open the key and remove the battery.IMG_0847.jpeg

Then you go about prising apart the 2 bits, till you have thisIMG_0849.jpeg I have already moved the seal from the old to the new here.

The internal board just fell out when I turned it over so placed it in the new piece, the metal bit with key if you lift 90° it comes out easyIMG_0850.jpeg IMG_0852.jpeg IMG_0851.jpeg

There are 2 little metal tabs that just slide out of the old into the new. Right side and bottomIMG_0850.jpeg

Now the difficult bit😰.

The little spring catch that you push to open the key.

There is a small tab and a bit of wiggling gets it out. Don’t let the little spring, spring off somewhere;)

Now all you have to do is put that in the new case half:rolleyes:.
Take the key bit out as this goes back in in reverse of removal 90° up and fold down after you have the spring and catch in. Before you try ensure you are sure you have the orientation of the plastic bit and it will all go together, then place the spring over the little post and slot in the plastic bit clicking under the little tab,

Place the key half back on and then then the other half ( battery access side) don’t click it in you need to put the battery in first:oops:.

Then you just take the back piece and click it together IMG_0857.jpeg

Took it out to the car and just like magic it worked :vb-banana::vb-banana:.

Right now the confession.

I let my spring get away never to be found again, I will probably stand on it in a minute. So if you can’t do this in a sealed box be very careful to make sure you have the plastic bit oriented correctly, I didn’t and off it went, 30mins of looking with a magnet and light with no luck.
So make sure you have 1 of the ball point pens that you can click in/out with the button on top🤔. It has a spring in it that if you put it on a small watchmaker/glasses screwdriver and wind it with a pair of pliers it can be wound down to the correct dia. Cut off the length you need and hey presto it fits and works fine:).

So 1 done and working so will do the other tomorrow, after I have made myself a sealed glass box when dealing with that little spring, although I do have some biro spring left just in case;).

The new case feels the same, just not rubbery and we’re not expensive £15/key but they came from IMG_0841.jpeg as didn’t want to risk getting another rubber covered 1. Even though the label on the LR box says “made in china”

Our L322 is 2011 and both keys had got to the flappy rubber so I am sure many out there are running around with tape just like us holding 1 together.

Did mine when I bought it too.
I had two keys, one was really bad with an awful silicone case over it and the other not too bad but the key didn't work. I decided to try a new battery in the inoperable key but settled for removing the sticker from it when I took it out 😁 I guess the previous owner had tried to fit a battery and then panicked as it didn't work and settled with the knackered key. I now have a lovely pair of coco.. Keys.
