for welding on a discovery?
We never agreed a price beforehand or even discussed it because I wasn't sure how extensive the repairs were going to be, and I'm quite glad about that now because there was a lot more work than originally had been spotted. first off I have no welding qualifications, its more of a hobby that kind of developed out of nessecity when I first got into landrovers, but so far I've spent about 18 hours over that last few days on under and around the wagon:
- new boot floor (to be fitted tomorrow when it arrives)
- all four footwells have needed repair
- a bit of patchwork on inner rear arches and cill ends
- both body mounts behind the front wheels have needed mr mig's attention, as have the rear xmember and body mount above the exhaust. I think thats about it, but as no one has ever paid me before, save in cider, I haven't an inkling of what to ask for.
thanks :)

ermmm he said 18..

my mate charges £25 per hour so doin the maths £450

does ur mate have qualifications though...if op hasnt and its just a hobby, id go with what my job would pay me if i were to do it...or if ur low paid slightly more as not to take the mick..if you dont you may get more jobs your way..

ring some garages, get some quotes, give them to the chap and see what he says.

£150

If you was a welder you would of done the job in half the time

Yep, piccies needed i think to see how good the welds are.

Also, you need to be careful charging if your not qualified because now you have a responsibility. Do you know that your welds are getting the right penetration etc etc?

I know dick about welding but i know as with anything penetration is important ;) :D

I haven got any pics to hand, but theres nowt life threateningly weight bearing, its mainly cutting out rust and sticking a plate on top and lapsingon the hammerite (and silicon where applicable). Of course the awkward places such as the rear xmember and around the bodymounts arent too pretty but if in doubt I tend to put too much in rather than too little. This isn't the first disco I've tarted, just the first for cash.

Thanks for your help :tea:
I guess the proof of the pudding, so to speak will be what the mot man makes of it all.

If it's mates rates £100 a day + consumables (whose electricity are you using?)

'ere thats what i said:boxing:

but silicone was mentioned, i thought that was a no no around welds and seals, isnt it better to use tiger seal or dum dum type stuff?

It's not the amount you put on its the strength and that it has fused properly that counts more doesn't Necessarily mean its stronger good luck charge for what is cost you and what your happy with only greedy people charge lots

£200 quid would be fair its 2 days work at most plus consumables, but then stuff like that is cheap as chips here.

Nah, you see, what i did was break it out into a day rate for the OP as he has already spent 18 hours + has more to do. ;)
