HI All

recently getting a vibration that occurs when the jeep is at speed. If i hold it above 60 i get this bad vibration through the floor that goes away when i leave off the throttle. No vibration through the steering though.Just had a refurbed caliper put on, clutch, flywheel and release bearing done 10k ago.Any ideas?I know i have a leaking injector but was told that isn't a major problem.
Thanks

I agree with the above, however, if you do have a Landrover and have mistakenly called it a jeep, and assuming it is a freelander 1, would be looking towards prop / vcu bearings.

if however, it is a jeep, you are on the wrong forum.

Yes it is a freelander 1 and not a Jeep.
Optimus you don't think its more serious do you ?should i stop driving it
thanks

you could remove the prop and run it 2 wheel drive. If the prob goes away then look at the VCU bearings

without sounding like a moron but what are those?i'm not getting any noise from it though.no grinding or scaping, just vibration

should also point out thats its intermittent.as in it won't happen unless i get up past 60 and hold it there for a while.

drive slower and save fuel!

Sure its not rear wheels out of balance or tyres out of shape?

It feels like it coming from the front under my feet.its def dependant on throttle though.leave off and it stops

The vcu is arrowed below. The bearings either side in the support brackets are a common failure. Some Freelander 1 models also have a dampoer fitted. Mine pictured below doesn't as it's the v6 version. But you'd know if this had come oft as it would make loads of noise. Prop shafts have yellow dots on them.

The IRD peeps talk about is the intermediate reduction drive. Arrow points to filler hole. It's at the front and looks like this:

right so.i'll take the prop off at the weekend and see if that fixes it.if it does i'll look at the vcu.if it doesn't then IRD?Would these be intemittent though and load dependent?Drove to work keeping it under 60 today and there was no problem.

My IRD bearings are on their way out! That rumble is now apparrent over the noise from my mud terrains, it is throttle dependent, I can diagnose mine by grabbing the joint that comes out of the drivers side of the IRD, if it's sloppy and moves around you have an expensive problem! Mines got a new vcu and bearings already, easy way to diagnose that is to remove it and drive it, you can then spin the bearings by hand to check for roughness and noise:) hope that helps
