I wasnt trying to catch any body out but i dont understand why it was necessary to open the CV gaiters when doing a clutch change.

anyway at least you seem to have found the solution :)

Chainlube might work, not sure. There again when it's used on a m/c the carrier fluid evaporates because it's in the open. Being inside the gaiter it might stay too thin.

With the gaiter pulled back it might be a good lube to spray in there and leave until it's dried out. Then what you have is high performance grease that's worked it's way into the joint. I haven't been underneath working on that joint so I'm not sure if it's possible to remove and replace the gaiter easily.

Sounds like your problem joint is fixed...thats good.

I have read your post with great interest as i have the same problem. i was going to replace both drive shafts but now i will have a go at regreasing them first. i presume yours is still going ok. i think tyres may also be part of my problem as they range from 4mm to 6mm but they will have to do till after xmas when i am going to replace all 5 with 225/60/17. ive tried one on another wheel and put it on all four corners and no clearance problems
