wtf has yer mot man got to do with the price of fish??

talkin of fish, I'll be fishin for some cheap insurance in a couple of weeks, five years no claims, clean licence and I'm gettin on a bit, how much do ya recon?

Last insured on a different policy (this time transfering the slitty ins) and it was 230 quid:eek:
Hoping for around 150 ish.

My vote is FOR a bonnet mounted spare.

Have a look at this thread, there's some info on there about the parts needed to fit a wheel carrier to your bonnet - http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/bonnet-mounted-spare-27296.html

I drove plenty of Her Maj's green Series/90/110, all had their spares on the bonnet and I never had a problem seeing out of the windscreen, lifting the bonnet or getting the spare on/off it's mount - but then I'm not a weedy short-arse midget

You could always do what I've done to my 110 - fit a bonnet mount AND a swing-away carrier - then you have the option of where you carry your spare or you can carry a couple of spares if you're venturing further than Tescos :D

Fit a wheel carrier that opens with the rear door -

Mantec's one is the best,

Bearmach's one isn't too bad (personally, I don't like the offset position of the Bearmach one)

I saw this one on eBay that looks exactly the same as the Mantec one, but at half the price -

Land Rover Defender Swingaway Spare Wheel Carrier on eBay, also, Land Rover, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 20-Feb-09 22:30:52 GMT)

You're a bunch of lucky bar stewards with your insurance, on a 200tdi Defender I'll be looking at ~£500 to insure it fully comp and that's in my name with me mam as a named driver, plus 3 years no claims!

Being 19 with 3 points on your license sucks balls sometimes :(

tried footmanjames?
Leaving it for now mate, will give em a try though. My calipers are fooked so job has stopped.
Corrosion in one set (pistons) and the good set off me landy are u/s.. One piston siezed solid and seals hanging out, pads not worn even either so been like that for a while, corroded badly as if left in water for 6 months, never seen owt like it, not worth saving so it'll be another month before I have any cash to do owt with the brakes .

best thing is to go with a recon set then they'll be Ok for five years or so eh.:)

Hiya Landowner

When you do get to shopping around for insurance again have a go at phonin Lancaster.

I'm 24 (so still under the magic 25!) with 4 yrs no claims and no points etc. Insured 110 with 200tdi fitted by Liveridge, A bar and roof rack for £324 so you should be able to find cheapa. I also got some daft 4 figure quotes from various companies.

PS I just got delivery of my 110 today and its got a spare on the rear door and the bonnet.... Can't getting the bloody bonnet open when I tried quickly earlier. Gonna have tu have a serious go 2moro.

Im 18 and got insured with the nfu with my dad as the named driver on my 90 and i think it was something like £450 (i havent got a no claims discount)! saying that tho i dont earn no claims either as im not named, although at that price i dont care. Compared to anyone else at the time the nfu were by far the cheapest, all others were at least four figures.

had a 109 with bonnet mounted spare twas alright. got a 90 with mounts on both bonnet and rear door.defender bonnet not as strong as series. its a lot of weight to lift when you open bonnet and if you need to have it vertical to access rear of engine bay you got to take it off.get a swingaway that opens with door

if you aren't named presumably you only drive it occasionally, the named driver drives it most of the time and the policy covers any driver.. and there isn't an under 25 exclusion...
