    SOLD: Defender Slickshift for LT77/R380

Before I stick it on fleabay, does anyone want my nearly new Defender slickshift? http://www.onlinegearboxparts.com/product/defender-lt77-slickshift/ It was fitted to my ex-mod 90 and did about 50 miles before it sat in the garage for the last year; so nearly new, in original box with fittings...

replaced vacuum pump.. Now it won't start

Chaps, what does the collective brain reckon to this problem. I've just replaced the vacuum pump on 12J. But now it's all back together, the engine won't start. It turns over ok, and there's fuel at the injectors - I bled them as I had to move two pipes to get the vac pump off. What I have...

    Wobbly Mushroom

Eve'nin all... For a while, I've notive my breather/filler cap doesn't fit that well.. in fact it wobbles about all over the place and lets oil pop out sometimes. I read somewhere about taking the rubber seal off it, and wrapping some electrical tap round the cap before putting the seal back...

    Bloomin spiders

Is it just me, or do Defenders seem to be the perfect habitat for spiders? I seem to have the national collection of them in my 90. Can't keep them out.

    Power loss in the wet

Evening all, an odd problem I've noticed on wet days. After driving through a puddle or lots of surface water, I'm occasionally getting power loss for about 30 seconds afterwards. The engine sounds 'flat' too.. Hard to describe, but the usual 2.5 nad rumble is replaced by much higher pitched...

    Powerlite Starter Motors

Evening all, Read about Powerlite starter motors in one of the landy mags this month. The chap was fitting one to his 90 as they're smaller and more powerful than normal. Was thinking of upgrading my original 2.5NAD starter to a TDi Starter anyway, but wondered if anyone's tried these...

Ride Height on Standard or HD Springs ex-mod 90

Greetings, My daily driver is an 87 ex-mod 90, due for a spring and shock replacement. Currently setup with the MOD backbreaker HD springs on the rear and standards on the front. I'm fed up with the hard ride, so am thinking of putting Standard springs on the rear to soften things off a bit...

Finding TDC with the wrong flywheel

So here's a challenge. I was changing the timing belt on my 12J 2.5 NAD at the weekend. I'd already bought the timing pointer for the flywheel window - as I'd seen the flywheel window and have no bottom plug hole. But, when turning the crank to fit the timing pointer, I noticed the flywheel...

Plucking up the courage... Head gasket and cambelt

... found a couple of good photo walk through's on another forum, so now I'm just trying to get the courage together to give the Head Gasket and cambelt change a go on my 87, 2.5NA. Cambelt looks ok, through the little hatch underneath, but I don't know when it was last changed, so think it's...

    oily hubs

another feckin oil leak, 3 out of 4 hubs are leaking now... It looks like the oil is leaking out of one or two of the drive flange securing bolts, and from what I can see nowhere else. So, is this the inner hub seal, or the half shaft seal? Cheers, Dobbs.

    Correct glow plug voltage?

Hi all, Does anyone know what the correct voltage should be at each glow plug? This is on a 1987 2.5na 12J, with plugs in parrallel. I'm seeing between 6 and 8 volts depending on which plug. 8 nearest the bulkhead, down to 6 at the front. I'm testing by putting a multimeter across the plug...

    Door lock, lock or barrell?

Eh'yup, I discovered this morning that my passenger door is easily opened even when locked!! Why am I not surprised? I've got the old style lift up handles not the new push button jobbies; so is this going to be the lock barrell that's shagged, or the handle/lock body, does anyone know...

Heater fan switch - what's normal?

How do all.. So the heater/blower is pretty well known by all I would think, but I'm struggling to get an accurate idea of what is normal operation. Could the collective brain give me a hand? Off is at the top, with the lever a the "O" position. Full-welly is at the "2" position. On my 90...

    Newest noob

Hello all, I'm new to these parts, so thought I'd better say hello. I'm the proud owner of a 'new' 1987 ex-mod 90, which will be a project as well as a daily run about. I've previously cut my teeth on 200TDi Disco, a TD5 disco and a hairdressers version of the Freebie (the 1.8 petrol)...
