Evening all,

Read about Powerlite starter motors in one of the landy mags this month. The chap was fitting one to his 90 as they're smaller and more powerful than normal.

Was thinking of upgrading my original 2.5NAD starter to a TDi Starter anyway, but wondered if anyone's tried these Powerlite starters?

Cheers

Are they waterproof?
The **** I have had to clean out of my starters is unreal!

Thats an interesting point. So much of those magazines is just product placement and sponsored articles...

Yep. I'm suspicious because a quick google search turns up relatively little chatter about Powerlite. The article's author mentioned that he'd been told about Powerlite from classic car owners, but I'd expect at least a bit of forum banter to show up on google if that were the case.

I'm also suspicious because of the way the items are referred to; too many mentions of company names etc.

And this all from someone who's happily fitting B**tpart door parts.

Fishy fishy. I'm sure Mr P. is reading this too.. so come on, spill the beans.

Before looking at the starter, make sure the earths and battery are good.

Not heard of this manufacturer before. I’ve got a wasp high torque starter to fit my Tdi.

Now you have me thinking... When the engine is cold, even if the day is warmish, it cranks really sluggishly. When its warm tho, it cranks fine and starts almost immediately, so I assume the earths and battery are good.

I've used a compact powerlite item on a different vehicle, due to space constraints. 3 years later I have no complaints.

Quite a few aftermarket units seem to be based on OEM cores, just with different mounting plate arrangements to ensure compatibility with whatever they are being bolted too.

Now I don’t remember getting that key ring but it’s not as important as the bottle opener
