How do all..

So the heater/blower is pretty well known by all I would think, but I'm struggling to get an accurate idea of what is normal operation. Could the collective brain give me a hand?

Off is at the top, with the lever a the "O" position. Full-welly is at the "2" position. On my 90 I've got two clicks into position as well, one of them is into position 2 and the other is about half an inch up from "2".

So what is supposed to happen when the slider leaves "O" and before it gets to the first click near the bottom of the slide, what seems to be position 1, where the fan squeaks into action. Is there some sort of variable fan speed on the way down the slide, or does the fan do nothing?

Hope that makes sense?

Cheers,
Dobbs.

There is a flap at the front of the heater that let's air flow into the dash. From O to the first click is how far open the flap is, with O being fully closed and shutting off the air. At the first click the flap should be fully open and the heater on the first speed. Second click is slightly faster.

Thank you sir, this is what I was expecting. Is the flap on the heater box?

Yup it is indeed, controlled by the cable attached at the left (when facing the heater box from the front).

Enjoy yours whilst its working :p soon it'll become like all of ours, lukewarm and asthmatic

mine works quite well too, even driven to work so far in just me T-shirt, the last guy did make sure everything was well adjusted on it, window demisted in a couple of miles, 4 miles I have to turn it down!!

We shall see what its like in the winter.

As usual, winter approches and while those of us who have correctly functioning heaters can look forward to a warm & toasty drive in to work on cold mornings while those who don't come up with the usual comments of "they are all cr*p & don't work" or will devise all sorts of wierd & wonderfull "modifications" that are just not necessary.
Make sure the heater is clean & set up correctly and that your cooling system is functioning correctly (no need for blanked off rads etc) and all will be well.:p

Back to the original question.
As already stated. Lever up is "off" with the flap closed, as you move the lever down the flap opens (allowing through-flow without the use of the fan) and then you have fan position-1 & finally fan position-2. The lever acts as both a mechanical and electrcal switch.

Brilliant!! Thank you.
