    Goodbye and Thankyou YB04 FTV

Yup, Volvo. Thought hard about an FL2, but seeing as the name is supposed to be being dropped soon I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a car that would quickly feel obsolete.

    Goodbye and Thankyou YB04 FTV

Part Ex'd my Freelander today. Mixed emotions, new car is much newer and much faster, but the Freelander was genuinely one of the best cars I've ever owned. Despite being 10 years old it was surprisingly difficult finding something with the same level of gadgets (the HSE was really well specced...

    FBH remote switch

I'm also using the Maplin kit dave recommends. I'm not using a second relay though, I'm using the kit to provide 12v to pin 3 on the FBH plug (timer set to 15 mins), it's working really well.

That's what mine started doing. Turned out to be a burner fault, I took it apart, swapped the burner unit out of another FBH (that I'd cleaned up) and it groaned back into life, fit a remote control while I was there. I found the FBH really annoying to fault-find.

    in line thermostat mod td4

Apologies if it's already been said and I've missed it - where do you get that in-line housing?

    in line thermostat mod td4

Have tried but failed to fit the inline stat. I can't get the metal band off! Have tried a small grinding stone and a cutting disk, but I'm worried about making a mess of the hose. When you've cut through the band, will it spring open a bit, or does it remain tight round the hose?

Should work regardless of fan speed or position of heater temperature controls. On a cold morning you should hear it wheeze into life within about 30 seconds of the car starting. You can also hear the pump clicking away behind you.

    TD4 DIY raised air intake

We're off-topic here (sorry OP), but it's quite straightforward. In a nutshell you buy a 12v remote module (Maplin do a model with built in timer) which you wire to Pin 3 (I think, you need to check) to receive a live feed when the remote relay closes. Search for FBH and remote for many threads.

    TD4 DIY raised air intake

Putting my FBH on a remote has been excellent, nice toasty car when I get in in the morning. When the time comes for me and the Freelander to part, the FBH is coming with me.

    Faulty Thermostat

Thanks for the link Spacemonkey. I can't work out if the new thermostat goes at the engine or radiator end of the hose?

I've got the Renault 'stat ready to go, just don't know where to put it. Can someone confirm?

Faulty fuel gauge/phenominal deisel thirst/all Freelander guages lie?!

I get about 460 miles to a tank, my commute is half very quick roads over the Peak District (A635) at about 65mph and the other half city driving into Manchester. That includes pre-warming the car with the FBH most mornings.

Mechanically possible to make Freelander a 'real' 4X4?

Is that your car in your profile, with the big round fogs? I'll keep an eye out for you.

    Juddering at 30mph

Think I have a barely noticeable version of this in my '04 manual. If I'm maintaining 30mph with a very light throttle the engine will make very subtle "cough" every ten seconds or so, It's subtle enough that no passengers notice it, but is a bit annoying.

Thanks Dave - will give it a try when the new remote turns up.

Switching on Hazard Lights From Engine Bay

Ah, that's much better than the one I've got, which is just a remote control toggle. They're out of stock, but I've requested an alert when it's back in. How easy was powering up the interior fan?

Switching on Hazard Lights From Engine Bay

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I'll just leave it, just don't want to come back to the car and find it's got a flat battery because I accidentally turned the FBH on and left it all night....
