    Fitting a P38 4.0 engine into my v8 defender

I've recently blown my 3.9 vbelt, and have decided to replace it with a 4.0 serp&gems. I started removing the engine from a p38 today. Everything was pretty much how i expected it, apart from THE P38 HAS A HUGE OIL COOLER...... Is there a reason why i need this? I've never seen one in a v8...

Partial Rebuild (what do you make of these pics...?)

Looking at the piston faces I think more than one cylinder is burning oil. I'm gonna gef the block out tomorrow and strip it down. At the moment I'm planing on cleaning pistons and the block and replacing the core plugs, piston rings, and maybe bearing shells. Hopefully everything will still be...

Partial Rebuild (what do you make of these pics...?)

Hi, I started work on my v8 today. The plan was to change the cam, lifters, rockershafts, timing gear and chain and head gaskets. I've got the first head off and it looks like the pics i've attached. I wasnt expecting to see so much carbon deposites on the pistons and head. Also as u...

    Steam from crankcase breather.......

Hi I've discovered some steam coming from the left bank rocker cover. It's definately steam, it condensates to water and when connected to the air inlet it creates a white yogurt over long periods of time. +obviouslly the introduction of steam to the air inlet plays havoc with the A/F mixture...

    3.9 knocking noise advice

Done that. Made no difference really. But it does seem to get a big quieter with 15w40 instead of 10w40. I'm back on 10w40 now though.

Quick Tyre size advice (Are 33 inch tyres too big)

Just to let u know I ended up buying 285 75 r16's. I out them on some 7j smiths alooys (not sure of the offset. I already had 30mm spacers on. I had to adjust the locks tops. But apart from that they seem fine. I've taken them off road and so far I haven't encounter any fouling that I...

    3.9 knocking noise advice

Hi my motor is delve oping a knocking noise. It's a dull noise like a spanner tapping the block. It's only apprent when cold and dissaperes once warm. It worsens under load. Due to the frequency of the knock i'd say the problem is only on one cylinder. What do I need to check? Starting with the...

Does this look a bit lean to you guys....?

Lol, not had a chance to whip out a plug and check yet. However, I've talk to a few mate one of which came up with an interesting idea. I set my mixture screws to get max rpm at idle, which is correct right? this gave me a lean looking plug. I've set it richer now which may have solved the...

    Weber/Edlebrock 500 experts, IMS question....

Edlebrock performer is great. Single plane so u don't need to balance the carb. Really well flowed. I swaped some bits with a mate. The edlebrock seemed alot better that the efi manifold tbh. There's also an offy dual plane one, but this is only really nessarsery if u've got bonnet clearance...

    Weber/Edlebrock 500 experts, IMS question....

I'm not sure what the current price is mate. Jetting is easy. Rpi can tell u what the correct jets and needles are for most standard engines. After that if u want to experiment the jetting kit is only cheap and u can change everything in a matter of minutes without removing the carb. Unlike...
