Steam from crankcase breather.......

Hi

I've discovered some steam coming from the left bank rocker cover. It's definately steam, it condensates to water and when connected to the air inlet it creates a white yogurt over long periods of time. +obviouslly the introduction of steam to the air inlet plays havoc with the A/F mixture.

There is no evidence of oil in the water. There is no real evidence of water in the oil,.... apart from, the steam of course (the oil has no yogurt etc). Also i dont seem to be losing any noticeable amount of water.

So right now I'm thinking there is a very small leak of water into the oil somewhere.

I've changed the valley gasket - no change.

I'm thinking head gaskets next....

Any other ideas where this leak could be coming from? Or why my engine might be breathing steam?

Great, I've got some composite HG's. Anyone know how much I need to skim the heads by to account for the thinker comp head gaskets? I'm pretty sure I've got original tin ones at the moment...

I had a little steam coming out of the oil cap when engine was warm and cap was off. Remove dipstick and it was like a very small slow net of steam.

This was simply blow by gas in my opinion, especially since I recently discovered the T piece which joins at the rocker cover flame trap pipe and splits the hose to the throttle body and the plenum was blocked, so the crankcase was not being evacuated when throttle closed, which also will have affected the mixture as the air bleed is required for correct running.

Yes it could be HGF but all I'm saying is look for the simpler stuff first...
