    Push rod swap

After a complete engine rebuild I was experiencing a continuous problem with one tappet. No 5. I replaced the lot when the engine went back in tappets, rockers, shaft, and rods. I have traced the problem to a poor quality "new" push rod. Yet again new part quality is S bend! I still have...

Still got it after 40 years

I can relate totally to that story. 1. Towed a trailer loaded with stone 250 miles to north Bavaria about 4 years ago. Got tugged by plod but they realised the trailer wasn't too heavy, just the prime mover was a bit old. 3 tonnes all up. MPG sigle digits. Dropped the load of stones off and...

    Rumble/Judder Problem Updated.

How strange - just posted a thread with a similar problem - should have searched more thoroughly I know. all is well apart from a knocking, rumble in 3rd and 4th. Mine only happends when its cold - its goes when the oil gets up to where ever the noise is coming from .

Ticking from GBox in 3 and 4th

Might be - I will check. I do have FWH but leave them mostly engaged while pottering around locally - to keep oil circulation. Switch them to 2x4 on long runs. But seems strange that its only in 3rd and 4rd - unless it speed related. Oh and it only happens when under power / accelerating. Might...

Ticking from GBox in 3 and 4th

Yep - oil levels are all good. Just find it strange that it only happens in top and 3rd. Really don't fancy pulling the lot out again. Just hope its not the engine bearings....

Ticking from GBox in 3 and 4th

wired new noise When its cold - first start - if I am climbing a hill in 3rd or 4th I get a ticking / knocking - similar to a big end knock - coming from bell housing area. It does not happen in 1st or 2nd and goes after about 10 mins. Revving the engine = no noise. The engine has just been...

    Taking the pi$$

Ha ha - Brilliant Thread. I think they sent the large box to flatten and then place under the land rover when their blanking plate starts to leak. Just had another parts quality experience. Fited new UJ's. Went to pump some grease in and the grease nipple won't seal. Took it off and one...

Re: 1964 landrover safari ?? anyone need parts

Front door hinges if they are not too worn. What are the door bottoms like? Don't mind if the steel frame is a bit rusty as long as the Alu has not corroded. Gearbox - how much? That's my shoping list - let me know Cheers

    What to do!

Dome some of that - increase compression - Iveco valves machined to fit as the stainless ones can gaul. Was thinking of sexing up the cam but initially used the old one as it look good - until the tappets scuffed it. So then just bought a standard. Not getting 26 but 21 - 23 all day and every...

    What to do!

Agreed, my tilt doesn't leak at all - the doors, front bulkhead and roof seal do though....... Like the idea of bashing the roof for snow removal - we get a lot here in Bavaria. I tend to bung an old coat in front of the bulkead vents though as last year I drove up to the north in a snow...

    What to do!

Truck cab in the winter - fill tilt in the summer. That's what I do. Change em over April / September. Agree with dominicbeesley regarding the engine. I chucked a load of cash at my petrol last year and am very happy with how it goes. Thirst is an issue so depends on how much you want to use...

Flying Landy but gearbox is vibrating

I thought I would provide some feedback. Pulled the rear prop off at the weekend to check for play in the output shaft - all Ok there. It should be as I have only just rebuilt the gearbox. The thought then crossed my mind that I might have damaged the input shaft bearing when getting...

Flying Landy but gearbox is vibrating

I was suspecting that - it chewed up a cheap bearing about 3 years ago - input shaft. I replaced the lot with FAG, SKF etc.. bearings but I am fearing the worst. Thanks for the reply

Flying Landy but gearbox is vibrating

Hi All Been away for a while as I have been concentrating on getting my S1 ruster over to Germany so I can start the marathon resto. The 2a however, is pulling like a tain with the new rebuild 2.25 Petrol. However, recently the gearbox has started to vibrat under power - like something is...

2.25 petrol only on 2 cylinders

Just thought I would add something. After changing thé gasket thé engine is now à bit tappety around 2000rpm. Its running smooth and pulls like à train. I didn't realise these engines went so well when in rude health. But thé tappets are annoying. Everything is set up right and its quiet at idle...

    Lend us a 600 notes

That is top notch. I just bought an 86 in about the same state as that - original 2 ltr etc..... its was sitting in a barn since the 80s. I plan to keep it as original as possible. I have been running a IIa for 20 years that's a bit of a mongrel so want to do the S1 properly. Already...

2.25 petrol only on 2 cylinders

Thought I would give you some feedback. Sorry its been a while but I have been travelling for 2 weeks so only just got time to pull the head. Yep - completely blown between 1 and 2 - a massive hole in the gasket. I'll try and get a photo. Went for the fibre one but I am not confident. Now...

2.25 petrol only on 2 cylinders

The one I have left is Bpart so I don't have much confidence. Are you aware of a source of old stock OEM LR gaskets? Much rather pay a bit more and get something decent without having take the head off every 5 mins. Oh forgot to mention, there doesn't seem to be any water / oil...

2.25 petrol only on 2 cylinders

I am suspecting poor quality gasket - one of my biggest bug bears at the moment is the quality of parts. Don't know if you have had the same experience but it is a getting worse. By the way, I have two types of head gasket in my stores. 1 is a Copper type the other is a black fibre type -...

2.25 petrol only on 2 cylinders

thanks a lot - I will do. I did rasie the compression a bit by skimming the head. Do you think the gaskets could be now a weak spot? Cheers
