After a complete engine rebuild I was experiencing a continuous problem with one tappet. No 5.

I replaced the lot when the engine went back in tappets, rockers, shaft, and rods.

I have traced the problem to a poor quality "new" push rod. Yet again new part quality is S bend!

I still have my old push rods - in order as they came out and they look pretty good. To test my theory I have temporally replaced the crap new one with an old push rod to see if the problem goes away.
so far so good -
Here's the question. What is the opinion on here of putting the old ones back in - I know that push rods need to stay in order but I assume that was to do with how the wear in.
re- use OK or shall I option to replace the old one with a another new one and roll the dice on quality?

If the old one is not too worn and you can get the correct clearance, I don't see the problem.

There may be accelerated wear at the ends with (I assume ) new followers and rockers, but would it be significant?

if both rod and follower are in good condition mixing them with others wont be a problem
