    Having a Gatso moment

If you weld it properly then it makes no difference to strength whether it is one piece or two. If you want it to be invisible, make it from the same gauge steel and form it in the same way as the original. Personally I don't like 'invisible' repairs as most of the time a DIYer weld isn't a...

If I decide to sell my defender...

Best you can do is look at all the prices of current & completed items on ebay, autotrader , piston heads then find closest , be fair, advertise it well & hope for the best! You'll always get people telling you it's worth far less because they've seen one down the road for £500 or far more...

    Temperature a bit high?

Assuming you've got enough metal on the housing to allow it to be recut in your desired thread size.. Tap your own blanking plug? I drilled & tapped the lower housing where there was a lump in the casting designated for an A/C sensor. Original disco sender left in situ.

If I decide to sell my defender...

No - sell it at a market value & let the new owner choose to have the body revamped if they want. You'll have a larger no of potential buyers with a lower price.

    1986 90 is pretty hot!

Agreed - looks like someone built it with oversized wheels (therefore the aftermarket arches) then took the big expensive wheels off before sale & replaced them with undersize disco steelies & road tyres. The paint job looks good. Hope the rest of the rebuild was done to the same standard!

Good place to buy paint anyone?

I'd recommend avoiding synthetic (alkyd) enamel.it is a very outdated paint, horribly slow to dry (weeks before mine resisted fingernail marks) - so rubbing down between coats takes days, eventually very hard to the point where it chips easily and perhaps worst of all, I've been led to believe...

    Temperature a bit high?

Hmm .... I bought the senderkit from steve parker for the disco into defender conversion. Two senders - one fine pitch one course. Left me with a gauge that still over-reads. Their response was - 'you must have a dodgy earth mate'. Interested to hear if it fixes it for you.

Interest in Ride on Defenders for your little ones...

Was watching a very similar range rover one on eBay. Is this the same type with parental radio control too? Costs- are we talking £150 or £1500?

    Defender 90 bulkhead outrigger

I used the regular britpart ones and they had flanges. So long as theyre topcoated & waxoyled I can't see any need to spend big bucks on genuine chassis boxes..

    Fuel Tank Leak.

Yup. New tank. As you say, you'll have to get one sooner or later so you may as well just cough up now. Mine had rusted through on the lowest part (a small circular pressing on the underside) which leaked into the gap between tank & shield. What really forced me to buy a buy a new one was when...

    Rear Number Plate Position

My old 2a had it on the offside. Someone had mounted a rear facing headlight into the tub on the nearside. It was great & very useful for reminding people not to flash you out of their way!

    Looking good?

You can barely see painted calipers through though those alloys. Good thing you chose a bright colour!

    Indicator - louder please?

Mine too. I've got a 12v buzzer ready to wire into the circuit. Quite annoying but certainly safer than driving round with an indicator flashing away.

    Gas/no gas welder?

Not really. But if he's a sound guy and doesn't know himself whether it works or not, he ought to honour sale or return in case it is knackered. Make / model/ location? Secondhand is often good but 'fished out from back of garage' could be more trouble...

    Gas/no gas welder?

Whatever you buy, weld as much scrap as you can to practice before heading onto the bulkhead. Search ebay to see what is local to you secondhand. As already said, avoid gasless - been there done that! Never again!

what do you reckon it's worth?

Looks good to me... Esp the wheels - really fill the arches out nicely without looking OTT. What size are they? I reckon 3-4 sounds about right probably erring towards the higher end.
