Temperature a bit high?

No adaptor available for that thread combination, thermostat housing will be going off to be rethreaded...

i would have got the orig garage to sort it out by now. their mistake.

Assuming you've got enough metal on the housing to allow it to be recut in your desired thread size.. Tap your own blanking plug?

I drilled & tapped the lower housing where there was a lump in the casting designated for an A/C sensor.
Original disco sender left in situ.

Good suggestion arc, if the solution I have fails in time, I'll do that, see next post.

Steve Parkers sent me an adaptor that they had re-tapped, the captive fitting seated down on the capillary tube tip in the adaptor and this has created a seal so far.
Loctite Lock n Seal on the adaptor thread as the re-thread will not be perfect.

Temperature is fluctuating between 75 and 80 degrees centigrade.

so finally sorted? good, and the temp is fine.. bit low

sounds like it ended up being a bit costly, when you basically needed an adapter :/

Not too expensive really as I have effectively upgraded the gauge to show degrees centigrade

£46 altogether in the end...

Yeh, temperature a bit low, was wondering about that, gets to 80 degrees then drops to 70 and so on...

I like that cranium. Looks good in dash for sure, would go well with my boost gauge.

Thanks top drive, might add/upgrade more gauges later, priority was getting this working right after I bought her a few months ago, all important jobs done now, can just drive her now and then plan maintenance and upgrades in the future.

as long as the gauge is working correctly, and you are driving so it's fully warm, then it sounds like a bad stat.. but 200s do run cool

normal defender stat should open at 88.

I haven't got a normal Defender...

Ironic as this thread is titled 'temperature a bit high' , the temperature is a bit low after all..

The infra red temperature gun showed similar I would say the gauge is correct

The Haynes manual states that the thermostat opens at 82 degrees centigrade for the 200dti engine.
88 degrees for the 300TDi.

pretty sure it's 88, could be wrong!

sounds like you have an 82 in atm. opening up and then cools the system down... it'll be fine.

you might want to stick an 88 in though for winter to get some heat ERR2803G less than a fiver

Yup I agree, 82 is standard, but maybe a bit cold for winter...

Hi Trax,

After running this for a few months and the weather getting colder, I now have a better idea of what temperature this engine is running at.

Generally the engine runs at 70°c.
I went up a long steep hill today and the temperature rose to 80°c, then once on the flat went back down to 70°c.

The thermostat would not effect this as it opens at 82°c and in the warmer weather under load when the temperature did rise above 82°c, there was a sudden drop suggesting the thermostat had opened.

But this running at 70°c and only rises to just about 80°c is more likely the fan running too much?
At 70°c the thermostat hasn't opened?
I'm tempted to change the viscous fan coupling, I will investigate to see if there is a way to check if it is working right...

Although the thermostat could be stuck open, so I should check that...

What are your thoughts...?
