Here we go again.
Just noticed diesel leaking from fuel tank, the top under drivers seat is dry, seems to be coming from the middle just under drivers door running down the outside in first pic.
There is an extra thin guard what goes around the tank as seen in second pic and cant see where leak is coming from because of it. this thin guard is starting to rust away and dropping off on the bottom of the tank, was thinking of just prizing it all off then might be able to see the hole to seal it.
Don't want to buy a new tank, Ive stopped replacing anything new as some time down the line when I can afford it Im planning on doing a rebuild on galvanised chassis, don't know when could be a year yet, but sick of spending money on it the way it is, jut trying to keep mechanicaly sound and safe until then

mine was like that, found the tank had become porous with the rust, I may be wrong but I do not believe the outer shield is removeable from the tank, it certainly was not on mine. I think if you try prying it away you will find yourself taking a diesel bath. if you are going to do anything with it, drain it first, LOL.

only option for me was to buy and fit a new tank , for 100 notes, it was a done deal.

I know what you mean Mate, suppose it will only get worse, but I don't want to spend anymore money on it until I get to rebuild onto galv chassis, could be another year yet before I start though, so might have to unless I can find the hole and out some sealer on or something.
Although saying that will need a new one anyway for the rebuild.

Yup. New tank. As you say, you'll have to get one sooner or later so you may as well just cough up now.
Mine had rusted through on the lowest part (a small circular pressing on the underside) which leaked into the gap between tank & shield.
What really forced me to buy a buy a new one was when I filled it up one day and fond the seam was leaking too.
Brace yourself for a PITA fitting job if it's a 90
Bearmach do a sound & cheapish copy...

I looked at repairing mine when it was leaking, but the leak was behind the non removable guard.

A new tank is nicely transferable to a new chassis, so that shouldn't be an issue if you need to buy a new one. That is what I did. Don't get a Britpart one, all of the paint comes off and it rusts within a couple of weeks.

I just got another cheap one from paddocks. About £85 delivered. Turned up in a bearmach box. Still make in China though

Had a good look today and found another problem. One of the bolt hole brackets on the tubular outrigger is just about rusted away, The rest of the outrigger is fine, just the bits where the bolts go through to hold the tank.
Is there a way of getting round? this without having to change the whole outrigger just to get a bolt in ?. Getting sick now, just finding problem after problem, Cant afford to do a galv chassis yet don't know when I will be able to, maybe another year or so yet. Still got mot until December but Really feel like just parking it up and leaving until Im ready to do a rebuild.:(
