Early P38 - Aftermarket Temp Gauge or Kit?

@datatek - yes, thanks, I understand. That's why I'm sorting the battery and the receiver in case it's the battery issues that are exacerbating the problem. But I suspect not. The issue that I have really is that I just don't know if it is the battery, the earth, the loom or BECM that is the...

Early P38 - Aftermarket Temp Gauge or Kit?

No ideas? I guess this is less common an idea/solution than I was hoping...

Early P38 - Aftermarket Temp Gauge or Kit?

Hi All, so I appear to suffering from the Random temp gauge reading issue on a M-reg (1995) P38. Gauge reads randomly hot & cold, even on cold start. Garage also assures me block is cold (annoyingly, didn't do it while in the garage). I suspect ground wire issue, or similar (...am also...

    P38 Switchpack - Purple & White wire?

Hi All, going through the P38 switchpack replacement routine. Old one wouldn't raise/lower all the windows. New one will open but not close the sunroof, so back to the breaker again... but that's not my question: In the centre console there is a multiplug jumper for the switchpack, but there...

P38 - Rear Windows - only working from Rear?

Interesting, thanks Brian. Front windows work fine, from centre console and front door switches. Rear windows however only work from rear door switches. However, the "rear window lock" switch in the centre console appears to isolate the rear windows correctly, and trigger the correct...

    P38 (X) HEVAC Display Screen

I got one from these chaps a year ago... Douglas Valley Breakers plenty of P38's, as well as some very fast but rolled sportscars in the yard, many sad tales I expect.

P38 - Rear Windows - only working from Rear?

Hi All. my P38 back on the road, but I have a couple of gremlins/grumbles. I had some ignition/lockout problems, now fixed. The rear windows however, appear not to work from the centre console in the front. They will however work fine from the switches in the rear doors. The rear window...

    Stuck door handles

There must be more solutions than this, surely. My P38 is parked in a frost pocket, and now I think the door release cable has snapped so I have to open the drivers door from outside with the window down  I've tried WD40, but think it's an 'internal' problem with the lock mechanism. It...

Winter wheels and tires - recommendations?

So it sounds so far like in theory narrow is good, but my choice is between 235 and 255mm so difference is not going to be enormous, maybe even marginal. The other aspect is the combination of wheel size and profile height. Will a choice between the standard tire sizes in the owners manual...

Winter wheels and tires - recommendations?

Gist of the argument I have heard is that narrow tyres achieve displacement of snow and slush more easily, and on ice max downforce is required, so small surface area = greater effective PSI. The potential downside is digging into ruts, but if I'm not offroading or going below axle depth in...

Winter wheels and tires - recommendations?

Hi all. Happy New Year! :) so of course the snow arrives and I'm late in getting my tyres sorted. I know it's going to melt, but I'm expecting to use the Rangey on an ice and snow prone ungritted road for most of the winter, in Snowdonia and Northern Scotland. Only on roads and forestry...

    P38 sat nav screen slot.

Others will know far more than me re the manufacturer supplied sat nav options, but the slot is certainly not standard double DIN. It's far shallower I believe, and I don't think a standard double DIN headunit will fit.

Stepper Motor / Air Idle Control Valve : as easy as it sounds?

Kev, Eight, Ramon: thanks ... It's been helpfully educational, and I have a better idea now of what triggers what and what to do. Ultimately, next step is ECU reset, have a look at the Testbook output, and potentially clean up the plenum.

Stepper Motor / Air Idle Control Valve : as easy as it sounds?

[You'll tell from this post that I'm not a mechanic....] Would failing MAF or Oxygen sensors be readily obvious to the garage with testbook connected? I'm minded to stay at the garage on Friday and see for myself exactly what is coming out now. One thing I don't follow re Ramon's post on...

Stepper Motor / Air Idle Control Valve : as easy as it sounds?

Hi Ramon, thanks. Is the intake for the air idle the big vent between the windscreen and bonnet? If so then the plenum air filter is perished (previous owners(s) appear to have skipped various service elements), and this will obviously not have helped re gunk reaching the throttle control...

Stepper Motor / Air Idle Control Valve : as easy as it sounds?

Hi again. So, have now replaced the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV). Biggest challenge was finding a spanner small enough to fit the nut hidden behind some sort of oil pipe (didn't want to detach the pipe). However, now I have the fast idle problem that I believe the garage was telling me...

    P38 Loadspace Lights?

Hi Steve, didn't realise that. Do the lights that are common between the Range P38 and the Rover 800 include the puddle lights? No worries if you're not sure, might be easier for me to find P38's at the breakers anyway. R

Thanks guys, will give it a go, and also look at the air filter.

Stepper Motor / Air Idle Control Valve : as easy as it sounds?

In theory: - plug off the plug - unscrew - switch for the new one, grease the fitting a bit - reconnect the plug Is it that simple? In the world of Landy's I suspect that I'm being naive...
