Hi All,

so I appear to suffering from the Random temp gauge reading issue on a M-reg (1995) P38. Gauge reads randomly hot & cold, even on cold start. Garage also assures me block is cold (annoyingly, didn't do it while in the garage). I suspect ground wire issue, or similar (...am also getting battery drain, but this could be RF interference waking up the BECM... another part ordered to fix that). But even when/if this is fixed, I just don't trust the gauge.

Now that it is literally a few days before Christmas, I'm in a hurry to solve it as I need to take the Range on a long motorway drive. Am thus considering a retro fit gauge and/or a conversion kit (I see these are marketed in the US, to at least bring the temp sender upto 1997 standard: Temperature Gauge Conversion Kit for Range Rover 4.0 (P38) available at Roverparts.com).

Basically I need a quick to fit and 100% reliable solution (so am thinking maybe an seperate gauge, rather than trying to replace the sender again, trace the spurious earth fault, etc). Therefore any RECOMMENDATIONS on gauges/kits appreciated....

Also, any reliable and sensible RR capable garage recommendations in Northants/Bucks/Ox appreciated ... it's getting to the point of needing a second opinion and/or someone who actually has time available.

@datatek - yes, thanks, I understand. That's why I'm sorting the battery and the receiver in case it's the battery issues that are exacerbating the problem. But I suspect not.

The issue that I have really is that I just don't know if it is the battery, the earth, the loom or BECM that is the issue. And the garage is not certain either. Which means I am stuck. I'm going to have to pay for a full diagnostic now, and I'm still not sure whether that will actually find the fault (since it is frustratingly intermittent).
