    Series 3 109

No problem, I have owned it for 4 years, it's always parked in the road opposite my house, the Chassis looks ok, the bloke i bought it from had a new rear quarter put on it some time before I purchased it from him, the footwells definitely need attention. I can take some photographs and send...

    Series 3 109

It turns over but I cant get it to catch, it ran absolutely fine once it did, I put a new carb on it, new distributor cap, new leads and new rotor arm, it runs on an electronic ignition. The last thing I done was to check the starter motor, I thought it was turning a bit slow, opened it up and...

    Series 3 109

Hi, I am looking at selling my series 3 109, 2.286 petrol land rover, it will be sold as a non runner, needs a bit of welding in the passenger side footwell. Any interest just ask and I'll send details. Been a member of the forum for a few years. Owned this one for three years, work commitments...

    Starter motor live terminal.

Hi, the live terminal that holds the carbon brushes on the starter motor has some insulating washers and a small length of insulating tube to stop the bolt touching the casing, anyone know where I can get these, mine look about ready to crumble and I suspect there's not a lot of insulating going...

    Starter motor Brush set.

Hi Col, yes, there is a positive pair fed from the battery positive terminal via the solenoid and the negative pair that are attache to the stator. I agree, I think I will solder them on as the old set were. Jon.

    Starter motor Brush set.

I am about to replace the brushes on my series 3 petrol starter, all the brushes I see for sale have both Negative and Positive sides as on complete set each, the ones on the negative side in my starter are separate wires each soldered to individual posts. Should I cut the new wires and solder...

    Stripped starter motor S3 Petrol

I had brushed the loose carbon deposits away with a paintbrush, been looking at what to do with it, aside from getting it cleaned up on a lathe or polishing it with a bit of Emery cloth, a new one is the only other option. Jon.

    Stripped starter motor S3 Petrol

Stripped my starter motor today, it had been turning over a bit on the sluggish side, quite a few hammer marks on the side of it, so I gather it had played up a bit before I got it. The brushes seem ok, free to move on the springs, the wiring for them doesnt seem too great, quite a few stray...

    Starter motor Brushes

it's not that bad a job really, i replace them all the time on generators on the ships i work on, a set of brushes is no more than 10 quid, a new starter is over a hundred, any money i save is a bonus that i can put towards the welding side of things as i am absolutely rubbish at that lol

    Starter motor Brushes

I was thinking the same, just so many people slating Britpart, I replace bigger versions on my generators on ships all the time. Perhaps people have managed to fit them incorrectly somehow.

    Starter motor Brushes

Morning all, the time has come to replace the carbon brushes on my series 3 petrol starter, I have looked online and there are a few different suppliers, I've read few posts on here and Britpart seem to be the ones to avoid (I see a lot of that on here), does anyone recommend a make or...

    Fuel pump for SU Carb.

I am looking at putting an SU 44 carb on my 2.286 3MB 8:1, I been looking but cannot find any info on whether the mechanical fuel pump on my engine will be appropriate for the carb or whether I would have to go electric. Anyone got this carb on their engine that can point me in the right direction.

    Fuel pump snags

I haven't removed it, it's still the original one, I can pump it by hand and it does pump fuel, quite stiff to pump until it goes slack, i noticed there isnt a strong petrol smell in the cylinder once I've turned it over and removed the spark plugs, not very wet on the plugs themselves either.

    Fuel pump snags

The pump is the original one on the engine, I have never taken it off. I will remove it tomorrow and see if the arm that is driven by the cam is worn or anything looks out of place.

    Fuel pump snags

Hi, I have a 109 that was originally a 2 1/4 Diesel that a previous owner replaced with a 3MB 2 1/4 petrol, it has the mechanical driven fuel Pump on it, I get fuel through the pipework when I operate the lever, but hardly anything when it is driven by the engine, I am going to take it off over...
