Diesel Heater - I’m having a go at fitting

Hi, a few pics of the start of my diesel heater install. Going quite well, but any comments welcome… Small tank will be going at the top of the rear wheel arch in a simple bracket. A sealed inspection hatch next to the rear bench seat will allow filling, and no vapours in the cabin.

    Rebuilt gearbox

Evening, and happy Easter! so, I have rebuilt my s111 gearbox, so new parts etc. back together with bellhousing and all looks ok. on the bench, before reassembly, all selectors worked fine. Now assembled on bench, it’s very tricky to get first and second selector to engage, even with the...

    Transfer box thrust washers 521328

Hi, I’m looking for some advice. I’ve bought new thrust washers for my rebuild of the transfer box on the series 3. on receipt of these, (£17 each!) , they were in plain packaging with R of China on, and not even britpart packaging as advertised. Probably are, as I’m sure britpart source them...

    Steering and front prop

Hi, does anyone run their Series without a front prop? how’s the steering? I’ve not done much more to mine for quite a while as I’ve been finishing another car off, however before that I found my steering to be wayward. I don’t expect it to be great, but it was not good, so, I have replaced...

Steering column shaft - use or Britpart?

Hi, stripped the steering box. Found this…. So, stripped a spare box to check that one. No chip damage however the bearing race is pitted. Thoughts on how useable it is from the photos below? Or, buy a replacement which seem to be britpart. Any experience with these? Usually it’s avoid, but...

Steering relay - usual issues but cv grease?

Evening… fun and games this weekend include trying to free the relay! Read everything on this subject, and mine is one of the stuck solid variety. I’ve had a bit of a play jacking the car up on it and a few “taps” but no sign of any movement. Might well end up servicing it in situ. First though...

    Tyre help

So, I’ve been told my S111 SWB wayward steering is probably not helped by the “security” 6.00 16LT tyres, and that putting some radials on will help somewhat on the road. I think I’ll be mostly on the road, so I’m looking to change them. Bit confused about tubes and radials etc, and what I...

Series 3 SWB rear fixed hard top side glass

Hi, does anyone know where I might be able to get the fixed glass for a series 3? I can find the shorter 700mm long glass for earlier series, but not the approx 900mm long ones. Or am I going to have to find used ones? Cheers.

    Not a clue

Hi, looking for some help, and I’m exposing that I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing... I drove my project Series 3 to its current place a month ago, to work on all sorts of bits and bobs. It’s an unfinished project, and the gearbox was described as working “as it should” however on coming to...

    Front and rear wing stays

Hi, my Series 3 came as an incomplete resto and soon realised the wings are missing the stays, as they flap about a bit. So, I ordered a set, which includes 2 for the front and 4 for the rear. The rears include a twisted bar and a longer bar. Thing is, I think I’ve worked out where the front one...

    SWB brakes - master cylinder?

Hi, can I just get confirmation that I’m likely right that the master cylinder is to blame for struggling to get them bled? ‘72 SWB 10” all round, so one slave per wheel. Single line, no servo. ive done the following - new slave cylinders all round. - new flexis - no visible leaks from...

    2.25 Petrol odd timing

Hi, So, fitted electronic ignition today, new leads, coil and plugs. Went really well, and the engine started first time after fitting. Runs very nicely. so, once warmed up, decided to check the timing using a strobe. I’d adjusted the dizzy by ear first and adjusted them idle. Then removed...

    Oil leak - easy fix?

I’ve a leak coming from the crank pulley seal. is it as easy as it looks to sort, assuming the nut comes off? Is it just slide the pulley out and hook out the seal and pop a new one in? The kit seems to come with some L shaped bits... of cork? cheers

    Brake adjusters

How have people got on with the replacement brake adjusters, supplied by Paddocks in my case? I have fitted one side without problem. The other side went wrong in that the splines spin inside the hole, thus rendering it useless. Now sorted with another, but I can see the splines stripping in...

    Zenith carb question

Hi, had my 72 SWB 2.25 Petrol for a week or so now. Not been able to go out in it yet as the brakes were non existent, but now they’re sorted I’ve move to trying to work out why it’s running rich, and sooty. Below is a photo of the carb. Does anyone know if the choke/strangler flap should be...

    Hello, again

Hi, thought I’d introduce myself again as it’s been a while. I joined as I owned 3 freelanders over the past few years, and still have one. However, I have just bought a new project, a ‘72 series 3 SWB. I’ll have quite a few questions I’m sure, but I’ll make sure I search for previous threads...
