Hi, I’m looking for some advice. I’ve bought new thrust washers for my rebuild of the transfer box on the series 3.
on receipt of these, (£17 each!) , they were in plain packaging with R of China on, and not even britpart packaging as advertised. Probably are, as I’m sure britpart source them from China anyway…
So, I’ve trial fitted them, and found the clearance to be massive. Actually, the originals are within tolerance, just look quite worn, however these are at least 12 thou from being in tolerance. If I shim this it’ll cost as much again!!!
now, looking at the originals and these new ones, it clear they are machined differently. The original have the outer being the thicker part, but the new the inner the thicker bit. I’m right these run in the outer? That’s what I’m measuring. If they were flat, and the thickest thickness, they’d be about right.
I’ll try to add some photos, but anyone have experience of this? I’m thinking probably best to run the originals, however scabby they are… thanks
