How the Mcfudgenuget does GLASS & TRAILWISE work ?

A good substitute for OS maps (for a quick browse) is Streetmap - Maps and directions for the whole of Great Britain. Helps with my planning on the bike.

    flux not interested ???????????

No insurer is compelled to offer insurance to a particular individual. Discrimination on race etc. is prohibited but if Flux decide that they're not interested in insuring a group of people who live in NW10, or who have been previously banned from driving, then they are within their legal right...

To name or not to name?....

The SIII was named "Lucy" in honout of the famous fossil and its antediluvian characteristics.

    battery isolators.

I have one only because I can go weeks without using the car and I want it to start next time I need to use it. Is say "have". It doesn't like the new battery on the Disco, keeps falling off, so I'm reduced to spannering to hook the electrics up before I take the car out :(

10 th anniversary bash who is going thread

Us day visitors need to be able to drive home again. I don't want to be through the first hedge after leaving the grounds.

    Manual Vs Auto

Yes, I meant "the numbers"; when I was taught, they were called "hold positions". Conventional autos will start in whatever gear they like, usually 1st, and change up to but not past the hold position selected. Modern flappy-paddle jobs, along with manumatic/tiptronic/DSG/PDK etc. do not...

    Manual Vs Auto

If you use the hold positions on the auto you will get control that's nearly as good as with a manual, with the added benefit of smoother power modulation in slippery conditions. What you will not get is quite the same level of engine braking. It's good, but it's not as good as a manual...

Pre 1974 or newer Defender 90

Classic insurance rules vary from company to company. You may get classic cover on a 15-year-old motor at one and not until its 30-years-old with another. And there are usually strings attached (must be garaged with one firm, must be a second car with another firm and so on). You really need to...

    Favoured steering wheel type

Less padding on the Defender item should you attack it with your bonce in a collision. If I could get the single-spoke off the XM to fit, I would.

    Pikey Sighted

Looks like we don't need ANPR and GPS keeping track of where we've been and telling the world  (By "us" I'm speaking figuratively. Never met the chap personally although I hear he's a decent cove).

    Stainless Steel Replacement Bolts

Put a micrometer on the threaded section. The thread outer is the metric number (i.e. 8mm outer = M8 bolt). If you don't have a micrometer, borrow one, drop into an engineering shop or ask at a show.

    Normal?

The J**p used to to give a noticeable nudge to the transmission whenever the torque convertor locked or unlocked so that *felt* like a 5-speed but AW4 boxes are definitely 4-speed only. The ZF 4HP24 is definitely a 4-speed so you're probably experiencing the same thing.

    10th May - Laning Warwickshire/Leicestershire/Northamptonshire

I won't book 'cos I doesn't know which day I'm allowed to come yet  but I'll certainly grab a spot if there's one still vacant. Bear in mind I've a D1 with full towing setup so "departure angle" is somewhere around the horizontal.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Failed to fit the handbrake adjuster to the Disco! I can get the clip on, I can get the knob on but I can't get both of them on at the same time  And there's no thread on the knob :o Thinking cap on for the weekend

    Uder carpet rubber

I lifted the carpets, cut what I couldn't remove in one piece and turned the radio up a notch. If you put MTs on it you'll generate more noise than the sound proofing would have killed anyway. Plus I usually drive with the window open. Haven't gone deaf yet :D but if I'd wanted silence I'd...

    Injector cleaning

As far as I'm concerned, and I used to drive commercials for a living, the main thing you want to find in a diesel fuel filter is diesel fuel. By all means, add some injector cleaner to the tank next time you fill up - injectors can suffer from deposits - if you so wish but don't try running the...

LZ 10th Anniversary Celebratory Meet- 9/10/11th May 2014

Well if the Disco's on strike, I'll be coming by bicycle  There are "lanes" out that way that I've done in a regular-ground-clearance car, without realising they weren't "roads" I'm sure Freelanders will have no problem. Not guaranteeing it for Mondeos though :D

Put the nearside wheels on grass and floor the accelerator. That usually releases the tension.
