As far as I'm concerned, and I used to drive commercials for a living, the main thing you want to find in a diesel fuel filter is diesel fuel. By all means, add some injector cleaner to the tank next time you fill up - injectors can suffer from deposits - if you so wish but don't try running the engine and pump on detergent alone. It's somewhat out of spec. for the system.

I run with a bit of 2 stroke in every tank full, then every now and then chuck in a diesel system cleaner additive.
This works fine, both my 28 year old 110 motor and my old Hymer motor home passed MOT with incredibly low emissions for their age

I was told by a diesel injection specialist to never use a cleaner in the system.... never to run Red and stay away from supermarket fuel or to alternate fill ups if possible with Esso etc.
Replace fuel filters under manufacturers recommendations as the cost was negligible and he showed me shelf after shelf of injection units with various problems from all of the above...... I shafted a Trojan mitsui with poor diesel and that cost £2500 for a new unit
