Expert opinion needed: P38 Transfer ECU

I have had an intermittent fault with my P38 Auto 4.6 for some time where the transfer ratio motor sometimes does and sometimes doesn't shift to low ratio. The motor looks new (ish) and the wiring and motor/switch connectors appear ok so I am looking to replace the ECU with a part from ebay...

WOW! That's what the alarm sounds like!

Nope! That didn't do it. But... I disconnected the battery for a bit and I think I might have sorted it. :)

    Warped Dashboard/Fascia

I've seen the comprehensive description of how to replace the fascia on my p38 but i haven't got the time or the money and i'm unlikely to get the parts because i'm in the back end of beyond RR scrappers wise so.... has anyone got any suggestions as to how I should stick down my warped...

WOW! That's what the alarm sounds like!

Well, fingers crossed, it hasn't happened since. But then you never know....

WOW! That's what the alarm sounds like!

At the same time? Like, whilst the key is in; I thought I only had to insert the key to reset not press the unlock at the same time. Thanks for the suggestion though; I'll give it a go.

WOW! That's what the alarm sounds like!

It was only a matter of time before I had to deal with an alarm problem I suppose. I have used the search function but none of the past threads describe my problem so I thought I'd run it past you all to see if anyone has any suggestions. I left my beloved P38 for about three weeks whilst I...

    I love my P38

Hi Malcolm, Thanks for that. The vacuum pipes seem ok - I'm tempted to think its electrical because the symptoms don't really fit the vacuum pipe problem (fading away on hills etc).

    I love my P38

It's just great. It's 15 years old and drives as smooth as silk. Okay, we've had our problems, and its only been just over two months since we met. But we do loads together: sand dunes, forest tracks, village roads, motorways, mountain passes and city streets and all in sweltering heat (44c on a...

P38: Why is my glovebox clicking?

I meant condensor fan but it's late (here)

P38: Why is my glovebox clicking?

I do have a book symbol on my HEVAC display, but it has been there a while and one of my compressor fan motors is not working so I figured it was that. Is this the time I need to consider a Faultmate to separate the problems? While we are on the subject; does anyone have, or have access to a...

P38: Why is my glovebox clicking?

Having said that, Drew Parkes posting today (Glove Box Removal) mentions the 'Blend Motor' so that might have something to do with it - did mention it sounded a bit like a soleniod - that's like a servo right? If I have to take off the entire fascia to get at it, this might be the time to...

P38: Why is my glovebox clicking?

I'm ashamed to admit that I bought a P38 with a coil spring conversion (saving up to reverse the process asap) so it can't be that. I have discovered however that if I switch the aircon off it doesn't make the noise so it might be a pipe cooling down or something? Good tip re the radio though

P38: Why is my glovebox clicking?

Hi All, When I start my 1995 4.6 HSE there is often and recently quite persistent clicking sound coming from behind the glove box. It's a bit like a solenoid clicking sound at about a half second interval. It stops after a short while but I'm getting sick of the missus saying to me "WHAT is that...

    Rear Diff, Viscous Coupling HELP

Thanks for that Guy; the local RR specialist suggested that the problem lay with old tyres so I invested in four new boots! (Dunlop GrandTrek TG35) and it has made a world of difference. The tyre guy also realigned the steering and the tracking and not only has the vibraaaation gone, its like...

    So Fussy!!

...and before anyone else gets in with the witticism the reference to a "straight" answer wasn't intentional but I just noticed it!:hysterically_laughi

    So Fussy!!

I have heard mention on this forum about how P38's are prone to wandering from the straight and narrow if things are not just right so I was quite prepared for the need to correct some erratic course alterations when negotiating potholes and the like when I first started driving mine about two...

    Rear Diff, Viscous Coupling HELP

I read this thread a coupla weeks ago when I had similar symptoms on my P38. The local RR specialist diagnosed rear diff and VC which were replaced. I now have vibration at the front end, which doesn't transmit through the steering, which is worse at low speed and kinda blends into a rumble at...

p38's are officially rubbish....dont ever buy one

I loved reading this thread and I love driving my P38. Not sure I loved paying the bill for a rear axle and VC rebuild though! You just gotta take it on the chin I guess but with petrol at about 37p a litre here I suppose its swings and roundabouts and it did feel good leaving the Proton Wira...

How much aircon condensate do you get ?

It gushes out of mine! (mind you, with near 100% humidity and temperature around 35c most days the aircon is always on)

    Keep Trying

Hi All, I bought my 1995 P38 4.6 HSE Auto about two weeks ago knowing that as it had been used as an executive's runabout in Kuala Lumpur for the last 14 years it had never been off road and the low range gears had probably never even been tried. Predictably, the shift to low range never...
