I have had an intermittent fault with my P38 Auto 4.6 for some time where the transfer ratio motor sometimes does and sometimes doesn't shift to low ratio.

The motor looks new (ish) and the wiring and motor/switch connectors appear ok so I am looking to replace the ECU with a part from ebay. The VIN and date of manufacture of my vehicle (VIN: SALLPAMJ3TA329944 [1995]) led me to look at part number AMR5252 but when I checked the part I have now (which doesn't look 15 years old) I found it was part number AMR6459 which looking at info from ebay sellers should be the part for vehicles after VIN VA370***.

I'm wondering if someone has put the wrong part in before I owned the car hence the intermittent fault.

So whaddya reckon? Replace part number for part number or will the RAVE parts list help me here to match the part number to the VIN?

If anyone could check their copy of the RAVE parts list I would be very grateful, or give me a link to a reliable source (the last time I tried to download it I was unsuccessful)

Thanks

i had that it wasnt the motor underneath it was the neutral switch connections by the motor theres a round cylindrical switch with 2 connections slide off the crimps clean off with wire wool or similar an wd40 then reconnect crimps onto terminals make sure they are tight and it cured mine immediately , i also had the strange thing where i lost the sound on my indicator clicker and this cured that too wierd

Hi, Thanks for that, I'll give it a go; are these connectors at the end of some of the bunch of wires that include the power wires for the motor coming out of the connector attached to the end of the motor?

Oh, and if anyone else is reading out there; I'd love to hear your views on the part number question above - for uture reference if its necessary. :)

Is that not the temp sensor?

Temp. sensor???? I'll investigate that. Meanwhile, I got a copy of Microcat which tells me the right part number for the ECU is AMR5254 for my VIN. Does anyone think its possible that an intermittent fault (and now complete failure) on the transfer ratio motor could be caused by having the wrong ECU?
