It was only a matter of time before I had to deal with an alarm problem I suppose. I have used the search function but none of the past threads describe my problem so I thought I'd run it past you all to see if anyone has any suggestions.

I left my beloved P38 for about three weeks whilst I went away on a trip. When I returned I checked it over and fired her up. I let her run for a while and everything was fine until I switched off at which the alarm sounded - intermittently. I was able to start her again and the alarm went silent. When I switched the engine off again (leaving the key in) the alarm activated again; for a bit, and then stopped. I started the engine again and then switched off and the alarm activated again. I removed the key and closed the doors and turned the key in the drivers door to the 'unlock' position and it stopped, and then started, and then stopped... eventually.

After that, no problems, apart from the key fob not working on a couple of occasions until three days after when the same thing happened all over again after it had been parked overnight. There are no fault messages displayed at all and I can always start the car with the key (and lock and unlock the doors with the fob when the alarm is sounding).

I'm planning on replacing the key fob battery as a precaution but it doesn't seem to be connected - or is it? Any ideas or suggestions would be gratefully received.

At the same time? Like, whilst the key is in; I thought I only had to insert the key to reset not press the unlock at the same time.

Thanks for the suggestion though; I'll give it a go.

No it didn't :(

If I turn it on and it ticks over for a while, or if I go for a short drive - like less than two miles, when I stop, the alarm goes off! I fiddle about putting the keys in the ignition, the doors, pressing key fob buttons, locking and unlocking and it finally goes off but it is completely random, it always stops just before I start to look for a tree branch to beat seven bells of sh*t out of it John Cleese style!

Do you reckon inputting the code with the key in the lock will reset it, or is this one of those disconnect the battery until the BECM forgets everything moments?
