Lucas CAV injector pump leak 2.5na

My Defender failed the MOT on a diesel leak that was coming from the throttle shaft on top of the pump. I looked at getting it fixed and was going to cost a bomb so had a go at it myself.... pump still in vehicle! It was a piece of p*ss to do. I have read so much on the web about how this needs...

    LT77 Hard to get 5th - Overhaul

My 50 suffix D LT77 gearbox from my 1986 Defender is very hard to get into 5th unless you have the engine speed just right. Miss it and back to fourth it is and try again. I got fed up with it so have pulled out the gearbox. Going to have a go at an overhaul myself. Any suggestions what I am...

    New Timing Belt Fitting

Any further thoughts on this? Anyone done a belt on a 2.5 na? Took push rods out last night and four are badly bent... just hope valves survived!!!

    New Timing Belt Fitting

Just found this on an older post about a 2.5na and timing problems... your doing it wrong, this is an easy job when you know how!! look on ALL THREE pulleys, you will see a little tiny dot stamped into them. Line these up with the arrows. thats it! The woodruff key method is WRONG for this...

    New Timing Belt Fitting

It doesn't by a very long way. I looked at setting up with pump and camshaft sprockets lined up with dots and arrows and the crank with slot in flywheel coincinding with hole in flywheel housing but when this is done dot on crank sprocket is about 90 deg out.

    New Timing Belt Fitting

Timing belt snapped on my 12J (2.5 NA) engine today. Can i just get some confirmation on how to put new belt in. Is it all three dots lined up with the three arrows on the casing? I am under the impression that TDC is irrelevant as is woodruff key and slot in flywheel? Thoughts?

Clutch change without taking out engine or box

1984 90 2.5NA. Have heard a few stories of people changing clutch without taking out engine or box. Is it true you can slide box back just far enough to get at clutch plate and have the clearance for shaft. I am keen to do this myself but being a NA engine there is not too much to do to take...

    High Low Selection very hard

What a different experience to DAFS by our first poster. I undid the 6 bolts and took off the housing and the lever was stuck solid. Removed the circlip and slid out the shaft with friendly persuader... greased it up and put it all back together. Slides beautifully and engages with no problems...

    High Low Selection very hard

I am guessing you want me to remove the top cover and clean it. It may seem a simple question to you but many of us are learning and need some advice from time to time. A lot can be learnt if people are prepared to share experiences... that is all that is being asked.

    High Low Selection very hard

Hi. Just bought an old defender, mid 1980’s and it has a transfer box that is exceptionally hard to move from high to low. Diff lock goes easily but high low requires massive force. I have been forcing it for about 20 times and it has got a bit better but does not click in place like my other...

    Difflock Engage

So I guess the test is.... Put in 1st with no difflock on. If props are turning then the broken halfshaft is in the axle with the turning prop. If no props turning... different problem?

    Difflock Engage

OK... Confused. When the centre diff is locked it drives. Locking the diff only effects the transferbox doesn't it? When disengaged it wont. The movement of the centre lever allows it to engage. How does engaging difflock effect any other part of the system? If one half shaft in the rear axle...

    Difflock Engage

Oxford. Never had serious trouble.... rebuilt engine, all sorts but never touched a gearbox. If it was in an axle wouldn't it drive in non difflock? Also why quiet in difflock. Can you explain what is going on.

    What about linkage?

    Difflock Engage

Are we talking about a transfer box issue then rather than main box?

    Difflock Engage

Folks Got a 300tdi manual with an R380 box. Wont engage any gears unless in diff lock. When out of difflock it just grinds away when in gear. Any gear, high or low it wont engage. In difflock drives with no noises. Thoughts?
