air springs replacement

hey all. tried to find this online but just got overwhelmed with ads for coil springs... lol
simple question really. what is the labor hours for a mechanic to replace the front and rear air springs on a 2001 range rover. i have been told from 2 to 10 hours. isnt there a standard? most things there is but i am having a tough time getting it. any mechanics out there willing to tell me. thanx.

can you not do them yourself,it's easy enough and there are talk throughs on this forum.

due to my disability. sadly. no.

Hi Welcome.. I had the two rear fitted on Sat by a mechanic,, ( his first air bags ) . Two hours job done..and that was because one of them was a bugger to get out, the other took 10 mins to get out... So 4 x airbags 2 - 4 hours depending how much crud is jamming them in.. And who is doing it... Don't go to LR.. Way too much money..p

i have got a disability and i managed to do the front ones,i just took my time and just got on with it.cost me two days in bed afterwards i might add.:doh:

Took me two hours to do my front springs changed to arnott springs. As alot better then the dunlop . only took that long as the front wheel was stuck one side.

The question is who with

Took me 3 hours with interuptions to do the rears and just over an hour to do the fronts. That includes the soapy water test for leaks at all connections at the bags and valve block, air tank etc.

is there no one nearby that could help the lad out,surley he would be happy to chuck a few beer tokens to forum member,rather than some garage.

if he told us where he was it may help?

why not, fetch it round, honestly its a piece of **** on the front. so long as you set your jaks to hold body and axle in the high position. mainly so the car doesnt know its had em changed and to allow as much room in there as possible!!

i am on the barrier islands of north carolina in the usa. where the wright brothers first flew. happy to chuck lots of beer tokens but i dont think they would fly all that way to you...lol

It's all that jacking that's putting me off! I need a much longer handle for my new trolley jack!

The wheelarch liners look a bit of a pig too. I suppose you do need to take them off to do the fronts? There's no point in taking the liners off for the rears.

Don't know about the V8, but no need to remove the front liners on the diesel, just push them out a bit from under the bonnet

dont worry about the jack too much, once you have it under the axle/diff, you can jack the body with the other jack and you only need to jack the axle enough to take the wheel off the floor, i use the ramp so it was easier but it isnt impossible or even much more hassle roadside!!!

thats what i did, mainly cos i couldnt get the bloody thinks off!!

I to have a 2001 and had mine changed last month,a mobile LR engineer comes to you puts them on in 1 hour max(all four)

Blimey, it took me longer than that just to get the rear on axle stands!

Mine are being changed as we speak, I am told at a cost of GBP120 ex vat which seems about 2 -3 hrs
