Freelander 1 Window regulator stopped working.

Yesterday, I parked up at my local supermarket and began to close all the windows and the rear drivers side didn't move up. No crunching noise, no nothing, just silence. I am assuming the regulator has died as I have taken to door card off disconnected everything and wedged the glass in the closed position until I can fix it.
The cable looks to be totally intact, so I assume everything points to the regulator having failed.
However........... According to my daughter, my young grandson pushed the button on the way home and the window went down a bit further smoothly as if in normal use. I investigated and completely dead again.
So, before I order a new regulator, is there anything else that could be at fault?
All other windows work fine.

There an isolation switch Yellow that stops children fiddling with the buttons if pressed. I guess yours is 5 doors like mine. The regulator can go as mine recently did hence now sitting on log repeating my account. You will need to choose the expensive medium or aftermarket version. to replace. either way to replace it easy enough. Once you take the door card off take the plastic weather protector off or cut slots to retape back over.Next if you can feel if the window bottom is still connected to the regulator gripper that slides the window up and down. If okay make sure the switches work okay as the toggles can fail too. Lift the door card and remove the toggle switch from the card and reattach back to the loose cable to dangle. Test with the ignition on to hear and see if any movement if none. test the toggle switches in the cubby box first by removing the little box out by unscrewing. have a feel for the switches to push out and swap with door card or other ones to see if any have failed. If okay all switches the regulator might have failed. to take out regulator look for three bolts one under release door handle two lower ones on each side the regulator. the awkward bit is the clamp slider needs to be down so you can unbolt from the regulator. if not able to come down then cut both cables on each side of the regulator drum above the motor. Once you have done that you can drop the window down and unbolt and relift back to the top and secure with heavy tape. Next is to undo the three main bolt that holt the regulator in you do not need to fully remove them as you can slide the regulator up and out of the door with a jiggle once you have disconnected the power cable first. To replace with the new one just fix the bolts on the new one loose or test to make sure by reconnecting the power. hopefully this will help a little.

I have replaced one (other side) about 6 years ago, I guess. It is all stripped down but not taken the mechanism out of the door yet as me and the sun do not get on.
The window is propped up with timber. It can stay like that until it's a bit cooler.
I might even try to repair the motor if it is just rusted up. I saw a video on that a few years ago.

If it goes down, but not up, then that points to the switch.

Both the drivers switch and the rear passenger switch doesnt make the window do anything. I didn't personally witness my grandson allegedly bringing the window down further.

Can check with multimeter at plug for regulator

Only 2 connections and the voltage is just reversed to go the other way

Try swapping the switch with a known good one. Should only take a couple of minutes.

Sounds like the motor then.
I'd go for a cheapo 2nd hand from ebay or a local scrappy.

I have ordered one now from eBay. Should arrive Monday but will be waiting for cooler weather to install.

No issues with excess heat here.
