Morning everyone,
The on going saga of driverside door, Fitted a new after market window regulator made sure the door lock cable was inboard of window and regulator, all fine untill today we have worn buttons on the key fob can be awkward to operate sometimes so goes to timpsons for a new fob The gent from timpsons sits in the car drops both front windows apparently incase he gets "locked in" and now the inner door handle mechanism does not open the drivers door. Had panel of again and I can feel the cable moving Anyone give pointers as why it might of happened? I supose outer handle has to come off so I can see whats happened??

Do the keys work in the doorlock okay and the handle open the door after. You should hear lock mechanism motor active.
Inside overide the motors such as the pull up lock door handle lever to mechanical lock. where the key has a long probe to the motor. asuming this is a freelander 1 model from memory. when you had the door handle off could you see the levers moving with inner door handle working same with the pull level doing the same.

The doorlock on the outside with the key you can lock doors which sets the alarm then press fob twice to disarm/ open doors But you have to unlock drivers door with key to access which is how I bought it and the inside handle has been working fine untill now with hand inside panel and using inner door handle you can feel movement seems to be a bit of play as you push slightly down on acuating rod towards door lock

There's normally a bit of slack for the lever rods but if they're having no effect then the lock mechanism failed. How old is the Freelander

He had one in stock the price was £100 aparently he has to decode and then recode The new key was £79.00 which he had to order in looks just like a LR one but no LR inscription on it
Did the key have a chip inside or blank. I know the new fob I had got reprogram by auto locksmith.
I knew when my key lock failed the probe extension was broken. The replacement would have cost a couple of hundred squids from LR dealer. So I had to buy the early model before 2002 version lock mechanism and keys. Still using the original key for ignition and tailgate and fuel cap.

I have not had a new fob done for the car as because the drivers door does not unlock with the fob when disarmed He thought in carrying out programme it could wipe info all together new key works fine what happened was he sat in car dropped passenger and drivers window to do the job and then he could not get out drivers door inner handle would not work, I think he may have operated fob from inside as i say everthing works as it did alarm etc just the drivers door does not open from inside WHAT IS PROBE EXTENSION do you still use the alarm with the earlier lock and keys Buddy

I assumed as when chap operated windows passenger front and drivers window all the way down and backup as he sat in the car he may have operated old fob I did not see but after window had came back up it was then inner door handle drivers side stopped everything works as it did before apart from drivers inner door handle hence I assumed the window may have caught catch some how or door lock gone faulty

On the driver key lock when you remove the barrel complete there an extension that slots into mechanism. Looks like a probe about a couple of inches. They have a tendency to snap causing endless pain in replacement or repair. When I checked the parts manual it a complete unit if I remember. At the time I didn't know this was causing my locking and unlocking issues. I ordered a early-ish lock mechanism for early model and got the garage to fit that in. An hour later they informed me that the original barrel lock was broken so I had it replaced with the early model keys and kept the old one for starting the car.

Doing the window countless times there's a bolt tightener for the window catch that might rub the handle lever rod. Only way of telling is to remove the card off and see what happens when the window is up or down. Sounds more like the mechanism more the issue.

how long ago was your issue ? I might be able to come up with a couple of hundred for the probe?

When I bought the Freelander 1 in 2015. It was bit of a sad case flat battery dickie door. But otherwise it had potential to make me bald with rage. Sadly I had to put it out of it misery beginning of last year, due to endless costs of repair and royally broke.
