Disco 1 Mig Flux core welding any good?.

Any one out there got,had one of these what are they like is it just a case of the weld not so neat,strong or just crap.need to replace both sills with box section and boot floor and many many other bits.

I would go for std gas set up, Ive not tried the gasless set up myself but have heard way more negatives than I have positives.
Join one of the welding forums and ask on there.

I've got a MIG welder and only ever used it gassless
I've had decent results, both neatness and strength
Done chassis repair without issues but struggled with thin stuff but i guess that's the same with any welder

It's not as neat as gas mig, it can be handy if your outside and it's windy. I invested in a Clarke gas mig welder ad use hobby weld gas, and get great results

It is rubbish in comparison to gas mig plus much more expensive for the consumables so I don't understand why anyone even considers it.

Don't bother with gasless youl end up with loads of burns as its splatters all over the place
working above will be a killer, as said it can be used if its windy out but don't expect nice welds.

Gas Mig is better and easier with no chipping-off to be done. You do need to work in a sheltered spot though, no force-9 gales blowing through.
For gas you CAN use pub bottle CO2, but its not as good. Best is the proper mig-mix, and you can get it on contract-free refill exchange basis.
I sold my little EN105a Clarke MIG to my brother for £100 and he's just welded up a 10mm thick gate frame with it. That's working at the upper edge of its capacity for sure.
3mm .. 6mm steel its fine but you have to work in short runs or the little MIG boxes overheat. But 13..16A plug single phase its hard to beat.

There was a guy on YouTube who did a whole RRC build using fluxcore but it's nothing for me.

Ok thanks everyone funny same sort of feedback as I found on the net the good the bad and the ugly I will be welding outside will have to make a temporary shelter and go gas me thinks never done mig but was very good at arc and oxy acetylene I'm sure I'll pick it up quickly.

If you can do stick then you'll pick up mig in minutes. Practice til you find right power & wire feed and if weld is porous then you need more gas flow

Google hobyweld gas, no contract and if you don’t need it anymore they buy the bottle back. Ideal for home mechanics

I find gasless is really easy to do cold welds lol, but it’s actually alright, I did my footwells with gasless out on my drive.

Definitely isn’t as neat as gas though, and if you gas get a proper argon mix - your welds will thank you.

If it’s windy then stick it lol, proper mig for inside.
