So I went out to play in the snow today, only got road tyres so wasn't expecting much, plus it's a RR not a "proper" landrover.
Well.... Turns out these things are amazing off road, I've had defenders and various discos over the years and the Range Rover did everything they would of done if not more,
Went up a really steep 4 mile long road with 10" deep snow and the traction control barely cut in, even went past a 300tdi disco that was just spinning the wheels stationary.
And on the return trip used hill descent, what a revelation, barely lost traction and got us to the bottom safely,
I love the rangie anyway but now my respect for it has increased massively.

I recall the winter of 2013 when I got mine, it was very sure footed and easy to 4 wheel power drift on Pirelli A/S, the V8 engine note added another layer of purpose to the hoonigan exploits.
I even chanced upon a poor MK1 Disco nose first in a burn, obviously it didn't have such a talented driver.;)

Who said it wasn't a proper off roader!! :mad:o_O

On a more sensible note,I too was impressed the first time the Golden girl and I played in the snow. The horses at that time were at livery on a farm, with stables at the top of quite a hill, with a sharp turn on the track half way up. We sat back and watched as several SUVs & 4x4s attempted the climb and then slid back down. The Golden Girl took it in her stride going up and on the way back down I allowed the engine, and hill descent, to bring us back safely. For several days ,the only vehicles going up and down the hill was mine and the tractor :D

Sounds as if you was lucky so don't pat yourself on the back to soon.
You state that your traction control "barely cut in" well the disco one doesn't have traction control but your vehicle made it to the top of the hill and the disco didn't, so perhaps you should ask why, it wasn't because of your traction control which was barley used, could be u have better tyres fitted than the disco.

I have a short but steep hill near me and the last time I saw snow was 2011/12 winter, on this hill which is avoided by normal cars in snow and so use an alternative route, was a 2012 RR Sport stationary all wheels spinning/stopping i.e. traction control active but going nowhere, I stopped along side dropped the passengers window and ask if he wanted help, the hand signals indicated that he was ok... ok leave u to it then, and release the brake and off I went up the hill without any issue... but then I had a vehicle with deeper tread tyres and diff lock

My normal car at the time had traction control but only on the rear and in the snow I had to switch it of otherwise i would be stationary.

Anyway I'm glad your happy :)

Driving in snow has a lot to do with driver, if you just give it lots of revs you will go no where very fast even in a 4x4, gentle and steady is the way to go.

It’s no different in the Cotswolds,
I’ve had an l322 for nearly 2 years, never so much as got the tyres dirty, that one is still parked on my drive in need of repair,
bought another on Saturday and needed it to play in the snow today, give it a week and it’ll be back to not needing a 4x4, still glad to have it though
